Rotten Review
It's finally happened! All the crazy conspiracists were right and the zombie apocalypse is upon us. You have two options in this situation. The first includes you giving in to the zombies and perishing, whilst the second involves you running and fighting for your life.
Here at Slot Gods, we have chosen the second option. In Hacksaw Gaming's Rotten, you fight against a gang of zombies whilst trying to avoid the mastermind scientist behind it all. It's wacky and gory - but it's just what the good doctor ordered!
The slot itself plays on a grid of 6x5 with 35 paylines followed by two bonus rounds and the unique SwitchSpins. You are in for one heck of a ride, so make sure you are ready for Rotten.
Design
You'll absolutely be creeped out as soon as you open up the slot. In the background, there is a deserted amusement park surrounded by rides that are absolutely worn down. Through the mist, you'll be able to make out the faces of terrifying zombies.
These zombies are workers from the amusement park so you can expect to find scary clowns and other nightmare-fueled zombies. During the slot, there are zombies in the background that move like animatronics but it actually adds to the horror.
In terms of the design, there is an interesting style from Hacksaw Gaming that seems to blend comic books with oil paintings to create something quite sinister. It's quite a dark slot but it actually feels quite refreshing for Hacksaw Gaming to do something more visually distinctive.
The audio is the most haunting part. There is music playing throughout with a piano leading the charge but it's quite distorted and often cuts off. It feels like this could be the music to Dawn of the Dead or Resident Evil.
Gameplay
Whilst Hacksaw Gaming has gotten quite predictable with the game format, we commend them for always keeping the games exciting with multiple bonus rounds. There are two free spin rounds that can be triggered giving you a better chance of activating something.
The newest feature in this slot is the SwitchSpins feature. This is utterly new from Hacksaw Gaming and involves respins that switch out a certain amount of symbols for wilds or the highest-paying symbols. In our experience, we found this to be quite rewarding and exciting when it happened.
Win Potential
Another Hacksaw Gaming trope is the wonderful win potential. Firstly, the RTP is above average at 96.27% which is great for an online slot. Alongside this, there is a high volatility level leading to larger wins but less frequently.
The maximum win for this slot is 10,000x the stake which is a high amount. Whilst this may not be as ridiculous as some other slots, it's a decent amount that will please high rollers. In order to achieve the biggest wins, we assume you'll have to trigger one of the bonus features.
Our Verdict
Rotten is a gory and terrifying online slot that will absolutely delight horror fans. It's been a long time since an online slot has been so creepy, whilst also being entertaining but Rotten fits into the mix.
Some people may be fed up with the multiple bonus games from Hacksaw Gaming but we still love them. This added with the SwitchSpins just cements Rotten as a solid slot. Horror slot fans, this one is for you!
