In true Nolimit City style, Possessed comes with an absolute stack of special features. The game grid consists of 5 reels and a 3, 6, 6, 6, 3 row formation with an inverted cross in the centre made up of 6 symbols.
With 1,944 ways to win, the usual payline structure is thrown out and replaced by wins formed of landing matching symbols on adjacent reels - left to right.
There are 10 main symbols in the base game; 5 are low-paying and 5 are high-paying. The high-paying symbols are also called the xCrucifix symbols which pop up on the left-hand side of the game board when you land an xActivation symbol. These are a possessed woman, a priest, a sphynx cat and a genuinely scary-looking monster/man.
There are quite a few special functions triggered by various x-named symbols:
Aside from all the xSymbols, you also have 3 different free spins rounds. Land 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols in the base game to enter the Necromancy, Atonement or Beelzebus Spins, respectively. Which one you go to depends on the amount of scatter you matched, and each round lets you enter with a different amount of free spins, from 9 to 15.
Each free spins game varies slightly. For instance, in Necromancy Free Spins, you enter with 9 spins and you activate 3 positions on the cross. You can also add respins and more positions on the cross if you’re lucky. The Beelzebus round, however, lets you enter with 15 free spins, and all positions on the cross are activated. So it all comes down to how many scatters you can find in the base game!
Finally, you have the xBet function which lets you increase your chances of triggering the free spins rounds by 5x if you’re willing to up the stakes to 2.5x your bet per spin. Just be aware that this feature is not available in the UK.
Land an xWays symbol to transform another 2-3 symbols into similar-paying symbols, with the exception of Wilds, Scatters and xActivations. Infectious xWays symbols do the same as xWays, except they also infect nearby symbols and expand them to the same size.

I was super excited to try Possessed as soon as the name of the slot landed on my desk. For one, I love a Nolimit City game, and my favourite genre of film happens to be horror.

In terms of design, Possessed absolutely smashes it out of the park. Every detail, from the creepy symbols and Exorcist-looking cast to the perfectly animated backdrop of an abandoned house lit up only by candlelight - this slot is an eerie visual feast.
I loved the addition of the inverted cross, which bursts into flames every so often (think The Omen meets Rosemary’s Baby soaked in petrol), as well as the ghostly figure that only faintly appears as an apparition behind the game board as you spin the reels.
The soundtrack is a very apt, nerve-shredding score that’s designed to keep you uneasy throughout the whole saga, and it ties this horror fan’s dream slot together perfectly.
As this is a Nolimit City game, it's no surprise that it’s a little off-the-wall in terms of gameplay. With 1,944 paylines and a veritable list of special symbols and features, Possessed is perhaps bordering on overly complicated.
That said, both the base game and all 3 free spins rounds are fun to play in their own right. Perhaps my favourite element of this game is the xActivation symbol, which not only gives you higher-paying symbols but can also trigger a very terrifying young woman emerging from behind the inverted cross directly on to the reels.
While I always lean towards slightly more straightforward slots, there is never a dull moment in this white-knuckle, jaw-clenching horror flick slot.
If you've ever played a Nolimit City slot before, you'll know that these games tend to be highly volatile, and Possessed is no exception. The developer itself gives the game the tag ‘volatility extreme’, and it did indeed take me a while to win anything decent and get into the free spins rounds.
