Oxygen is the latest in a long line of modern grid slots and therefore abides by the Cluster Pays system. In this game, you'll need a group of five matching symbols to land anywhere on the reels but they must be touching horizontally or vertically.
The lowest-paying symbols are the three coloured gems and you'll need quite a lot of these to see any profit from your stake; 14 or more will do the trick. Moving up the ranks, we find 3 ugly-looking fish and a diver's helmet in which an octopus is hiding. This final symbol can produce up to 100x for 14+ matching symbols. There are also big symbols available with a 4x4 giant symbol being the biggest that can land. The beauty of these is that you are already on your way to a fabulous win and if they connect with other matching symbols, then that win just gets better.
Winning symbols are removed, as is the tradition with the Avalanche after a Cluster Pays combo and new symbols will drop into place. The excitement starts to pick up at this point as multiplier spaces are left behind when winning symbols disappear. Wild symbols come in three formats and these are X-Blaster Wilds, Exploding Wilds and regular Wilds. X-Blasters will replace a selection of random symbols in an ‘X’ shape and the Exploding Wild will blow up all payout symbols within an ‘X’ shape area above and below itself.
Players in the UK will be able to experience the regular Bonus game with 10 free spins available and multipliers now sticking around throughout the spins. It's also possible to see persistent multiplier modifiers but they aren't guaranteed. For this privilege, you will have to be in an area that allows you to pay a hefty 500x your stake and in this instance, still only 10 plays are available but one of the multiplier modifiers will be guaranteed. This is quite a big gamble to take.
The other buy in option is to pay 100x for the regular Bonus game. We've seen ELK Studios produce many of these features and modifiers in previous slots but I can't remember a time when they all came together so seamlessly. It's everything I hoped for and more, and I'm pretty sure you're going to agree.
There's an animated format over at ELK Studios that seems to work perfectly throughout their complete range of slots lately. The graphics are crisp and fun, the soundtrack is apt and the sound effects do a perfect job. Naturally, you'll see a few oxygen bubbles making their way up to the surface and the Wild symbols can completely destroy the reels at times.
I'm not a fan of disjointed Base Games and Bonus features—who is?—and ELK Studios always does me proud in this respect. The list of modifying opportunities and little multiplier features stay with you at all times and they just get more potent as the Bonus feature arrives. It's a flawless slot journey.
Sometimes I look at a max payout figure and think this is going to be an impossible task to achieve. Not so in Oxygen and I fully expect the 25,000x max win to be smashed fairly quickly. The RTP is the regular 94% and the volatility isn't as high as you would imagine.
I think I've banged on about Oxygen enough for you to get the message that I simply love this game!
