Joseph grew up in a rural setting, and still loves to spend time in the countryside. Some of his earliest memories are of feeding coins into slot games in the arcades of English seaside towns. Later, when online gambling took off, Joseph’s appreciation of slots was reignited.
However, the allure and bright lights of a big city could not be ignored forever. Now living in Manchester, Joseph misses the greenery but enjoys the hustle and bustle.
Over the course of several years, Joseph studied cognitive psychology to MSc level, but the most important thing that happened during this time was that he discovered a passion for writing. He has since tried his hand at many different types of writing, with (wildly) varying degrees of success.
Since university, Joseph’s love of the English language has informed many of his decisions, and he soon found himself working as a freelance writer. Joseph’s eclectic experiences in freelance writing have taken him to many places that he never expected to go, from creating obscure website copy to reviews of niche consumer products, and span everything from the entertaining to the academic.
Joseph has written more than one hundred scripts for YouTube channels, some of which have racked up millions of views. Some of his other assignments have included writing scripts for educational animation videos, producing a guide on how to convert regular vans into campers, and reviewing various condiments (spoiler: hot sauce always wins).
As keen a reader as he is a writer, Joseph spends a great deal of his free time buried in novels. This enjoyment of fiction also feeds into his appreciation of well-designed slot games, particularly those with memorable characters, worldbuilding, and genuine narrative chops.
Another of Joseph’s central passions is film, and he can often – perhaps too often – be found at his local cinema, trying to catch the latest releases and glaring at people who think they’re eating quietly.
After first working for Slot Gods in 2023, Joseph now enjoys making regular contributions to the site with much of his work focusing on industry news, insight and opinion pieces, and blogs.
