David Thomas

Writer

At school, David enjoyed one class the most – English. And the written word has been a passion ever since. Now forging a writing career, David has over a decade’s experience working as a content writer, content team leader, and ghostwriter.

Alongside his passion for words David discovered his love for slots and the thrill of the casino floor during his university days while socialising with friends. Genre-wise his slots tastes are quite wide-ranging though pirate-themed slots remain a particular favourite.

David joined Slot Gods in 2024, writing on a freelance basis. He researches, writes, and edits articles, blogs, reviews, and features about the online slots industry, sharing his extensive knowledge and passion for the subject with readers across the world.

After graduating from Swansea University in 2010 with a BA degree in English Studies, David focused on his passion for music and writing. Performing original compositions, David has gigged extensively across the UK as a solo acoustic singer-songwriter, playing everything from festivals to weddings. But, David’s love of writing never waned. He worked on a freelance basis  for music magazines and creating copy for renowned online sites, covering niches from fitness to cars, and, of course, gambling.

2019 was a turning point. Though still writing and making music, David decided to focus more on his content writing career, aiming to build an extensive portfolio of work. David’s portfolio began to grow, writing for various industry sectors, such as sports, medicine, law, real estate, and more. This led David to one of his proudest projects, creating content for Foster Wales’ landing pages allowing him to make a meaningful impact by helping to support and inform those considering fostering.

During the 2020 Pandemic, live music was no longer an option. David  joined a South Wales based digital marketing company as a content writer. Writing 5,000 words a day (yes, that’s A LOT), David wrote about everything and anything: crafting blog pieces, articles, reviews, listicles, landing pages, and product descriptions. The diverse topics and styles required gave David the opportunity to become a more versatile writer.

David was soon promoted to Content Team Leader, overseeing a team of up to 8 content writers.

In 2023, the digital marketing company went into administration. But when one door closed, several others opened. David wrote and published his first children’s book Captain Snot: The Pirate Scared of Water, worked on other new children’s books projects, as well as picking up his songwriting once again. And since mid-2023, David has been working successfully as a freelance writer for clients in the UK and the USA.

David is SEO Certified with the HubSpot Academy, with qualifications in Creative Writing and Critical Thinking (OpenLearn), Creating a Professional Online Presence (FutureLearn), Creating Great Online Content (FutureLearn), and Personal Branding for Career Success (OpenLearn).

David writes extensively for a myriad of projects. And, with the changing content landscape as a result of AI and new technologies, he continues to adapt, working alongside AI and using it to its advantage.

David continues to make and play music, performing over 100 live shows a year. “Music is my passion; performing live is the best bit, especially when I see a crowd enjoying something I have written.”
