Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness Review
Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness is a 5x5 cluster pays slot developed by Play'n GO. This frightening good slot combines horror and rock music in the strangest of ways. Seasoned slot players will find this slot somewhat similar to Rich Wilde and the Tome of Madness.
Players can pick up big wins on non-winning spins thanks to Reality Effects, benefit from an insanely cool Alice Cooper Mega Wild upon landing 3 key symbols freeing Cooper from chains and win up to 3,000x their stake by way of the Reality Spins feature.
Design
Where do we even begin with Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness? This atmospheric horror-themed slot is set in what we can only assume is an abandoned insane asylum, and it's pretty damn spooky! The reels are set upon a crumbling old book (the Tome of Madness), to the left of the book is Alice Cooper's famous top hat ominously floating in the air, to the right is the legendary Alice Cooper himself, all chained up and looking very angry.
Low paying symbols in Tome of Madness are different coloured gems (green, purple, blue and red). High paying symbols are animated symbols, these are a tarantula, a crucifix, a snake and a bleeding heart with daggers driven into it. The special wild symbol is the Tome of Madness.
In terms of sounds, base gameplay features a creepy orchestral score that slowly builds tension... There are also some spine-tingling ambient noises such as heavy rain pouring down and thunder and lightning (which lights up the game every so often). Whenever players manage to trigger the Alice Cooper Mega Wild, his famous song Welcome to my Nightmare kicks in, and you know us... We love it when licensed music appears in an online slot.
In addition to all of the above, there's a good handful of Alice Cooper voice lines that were recorded especially for this slot, it's those little additions that we really appreciate when we're reviewing a branded game.
Gameplay
Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness is a 5x5 cluster pays slot that sees players form winning combinations when four or more symbols land next to eachother horizontally or vertically in a connected cluster on the grid. Whenever these clusters are formed they're removed from the reels allowing for new symbols to fall into place, potentially forming new clusters. Whenever players register a certain number of consecutive winning clusters then they'll trigger bonus features.
In terms of navigating Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness, there's not really too much to worry about, this slot is designed to be played the same way most (if not all) Play'n GO slots are. An action bar runs along the bottom of the game reels featuring an info button, stake selection buttons, autospin and spin.
Win Potential
This slot genuinely has the potential to be up there amongst some of the very best, it's that well done! That being said, one of the only places we truly believe this game falls short is win potential. Frustratingly, this high volatility slot only has a maximum win potential of 3,000x the player's stake. Don't get us wrong, we'd never turn our nose up at winning 3,000x our stake, but it's not that big in comparison to other new online slots. The RTP is okay at 96.20% though, as were the wins we experienced when triggering Reality Effects after a non-winning spin!
Our Verdict
Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness rocks, it's an enjoyable cluster pays slot that felt a little bit like Red Tiger Gaming slot Devil's Number, which isn't a bad thing at all! The only thing that really let us down was the fact that this game has a low maximum win potential of just 3,000x the player's stake, we can't help thinking that such a big name slot should have a bit more bite to it.
