There is an abundance of Twig symbols available in this game with 4 varieties making up the lower paying symbols. My first thought was that somebody had robbed a Nolimit City slot and passed it off as their own. Luckily, nothing shady like that has been going on in this dark production from Print Studios. This awesome game producer is merely showing that it has a real artistic flair for the macabre.
A lot of time and effort has gone into the audio-visual setup of this Darkness game—so much so that you even have to adjust the brightness settings before the game loads. This is to make sure that you get the perfect experience as you begin playing.
The game is set in a haunted house with some incredibly detailed features running along the outside of the reels. The occasional demon shows up to scare you out of your skin and little orbs of light float upwards towards the roof of this damned property.
Another nice animated touch includes the lurching of skeletons that are held in place by the twisted vines outlining the reels. It is hard to describe the soundtrack but suffice to say that it would not be out of place in a horror movie.
The Giant symbols and SuperSpinners are nice bass game modifiers that always have a place in a slot—in my opinion. A couple of extras wouldn’t have gone a miss in order to make the initial part of this game a little more exciting. Said excitement has been reserved for the Dark Ritual bonus with that pentagram and sticky Wilds having the ability to produce some top wins.
The hit frequency is 33% and this means that you should see wins every 3 spins or so. But the star of the stat show is the 20,000x max win and you can't complain about the RTP of 96.14% either. A decent range of stakes exists with between 10p and £50 available per spin for some players.
Darkness almost had me with its fantastic design and enormous payout potential. However, the gameplay did let the side down a little bit. It's not a huge complaint but I would have liked to have seen a couple of extra modifiers thrown in to make the base game a little more enjoyable.
