Whatever you glean from the name ‘Outsourced’, I can guarantee this game is not it! The deranged brains at Nolimit City are at it again with another weird and wonderful creation that stands out from any other slot out there.
Outsourced is set in a factory of what looks like rejected toys and trinkets from the 90s. It’s a 4x4 grid slot that offers 256 paylines, wilds, multipliers and Nolimit’s usual xWays and xNudge features.
But is it just another visual assault from this odd slot studio, or is it a solid game that offers up some decent wins? Let’s see.
Outsourced is played on a 4x4 grid. With 256 pay lines, you can make winning combinations by finding matching symbols on adjacent reels. There are 10 regular symbols at play, which are a combination of letters and crazy 90s toys and memorabilia.
My personal favorite happens to be the ‘Gaybo’ console, which is a very cheeky detail that you might miss at first glance.
Being a Nolimit City title, you get a bunch of other special features thrown in as well. If you've ever played a Nolimit game before, you'll be familiar with xWays symbols that expand, as well as the xNudge Wilds that may give you multipliers as you play.
In Outsourced, you'll also find Print Spins which are effectively re-spins that can award multipliers.
Generally speaking, the base game is as upbeat and fast-paced as you would expect from a Nolimit City game. That said, I do feel like this game relies a little too heavily on visuals rather than a dynamic gaming experience. The addition of xWays and xNudge Wilds always add a little something to proceedings, but I feel like a lot of this studio’s games are all going the same way and becoming a bit ‘samey’.
There are 2 free spins rounds in Outsourced: Sweatshop Spins and Sweatier Shop Spins. By finding 3 scatter symbols in the base game you'll go to Sweatshop Spins, while 4 scatter symbols will take you to Sweatier Shop Spins.
Disappointingly, these games are pretty much identical. The only difference is the amount of spins you enter the round with. The game board stays pretty much the same during this round as well, but you can enjoy some ramped-up music and the opportunity for more multipliers.
Two of Nolimit City’s signature features, xWays symbols can reveal a low to mid-paying symbol of 2-4 sizes, or a blocker of normal size. xNudge Wilds can appear anywhere on the reels and always expand to become fully visible. They also award multipliers for every nudge they take.
Winning symbols pay out before triggering the Print Spins respins feature. Winning symbols disappear, leaving gaps for new symbols to land in their place. The multiplier on those winning positions increases by 1x for each Print Spin.
Land 3 scatter symbols to trigger 3 Sweatshop Spins. Any symbol multipliers from the base game are kept during this round. If you’re lucky enough to find 4 scatter symbols in the base game, you get 5 Sweatiershop Spins.
As is standard practice with Nolimit City, Outsourced is extremely volatile. This means you may have to wait around for a big win. If you live outside of the UK, you'll have the opportunities for various buy-ins that could increase your chances of winning, but if you are playing in the normal mode you'll find an RTP of 96.08%, which is pretty standard.
With 256 pay lines, there's definitely some serious winning potential, but I imagine you'll be waiting around for a long time before you see any big win come your way.
As a general rule, I like Nolimit City games. They are fun and quirky and never quite what you expect. However, Outsourced looks very much like some other recent titles, like Brick Snake and Nine to Five, meaning that even the most imaginative of minds can start to run out of ideas.
If you like 90s retro imagery and bright colours, you'll love this insanely visual slot. As with Brick Snake, when reviewing Outsourced I had to turn the music off eventually, as the mishmash of 90s dance music and weird factory tannoy announcements made me want to rip my earlobes off.
While I enjoyed my session with Outsourced, I definitely have mixed feelings about this slot. Although it is trying to be weird and wacky, it's starting to feel like Nolimit City are producing the same game just with slightly varied imagery.
The free spins rounds are very lacklustre, but the base game is quite fun and a grid feel is always a nice change.
This slot isn't for everyone, and I don't see myself running back to this one anytime soon. However, if you're a 90s kid in the mood for a bit of nostalgia, this could be the slot for you.
