Monopoly Utility Trails
Monopoly Utility Trails is an 8-reel, 7-row cluster pays slot developed by SG Digital that's based on the famous board game of the same name. Wins are triggered when players land clusters of matching symbols across the grid, when winning clusters occur, they're removed, allowing new symbols to drop and replace them.
You'd be right to think this slot seems somewhat familiar, as it's been billed by Scientific Games themselves as the spiritual successor to an iconic slot called Chain Reactor Super Trails developed by OpenBet (a studio acquired by SG Digital) back in 2017.
Design
This Monopoly-themed slot is wonderfully designed, however, it's not what you might have expected from a game based on the classic board game. It does share some similarities to other games in the Monopoly slot series, however, this one is notably different!
The game grid is surrounded by copper pipes, cogs and taps! There are also two large gauges to the left and right of the grid that fills incrementally each time players land a waterworks tap or electric company bulb symbol on the grid... It's especially exciting when the water gauge is filled to the top, as the taps at the top of the screen activate and water is dramatically poured onto the game grid!
Low paying symbols that appear on the grid are traditional gemstones, these are rubies, quartz, emeralds, and sapphires. High paying symbols are exactly what you'd expect, they're all game pieces from the modern board game, these include a Steampunk-inspired top hat, a steamboat, a dog and an old-fashioned luxury car.
There are four different wild symbols, these include a golden train wild, a train carriage wild, a waterworks tap wild and an electric company bulb wild.
Not only does this game look great, but it also boasts quite a catchy soundtrack that sees a big band perform a song that'll have you tapping along for hours after you've played.
Gameplay
Whilst this is essentially your standard cluster pays slot, a lot of the gameplay revolves around the two gauges to the left and right of the game grid that fills incrementally each time players land a waterworks tap or electric company bulb symbol on the grid. When these gauges are filled to the brim then their respective bonuses will trigger.
This game doesn't feature a standard action bar, instead, the buttons are spread out along the right-hand side of the game. The spin button can be found in the bottom right-hand side of the screen with a stake selection and game setting buttons above it. On the opposite side of the game screen, there's a board that displays all of the winning clusters and their respective values on each individual spin, which is pretty handy when it comes to working out how well you've done!
Win Potential
This medium volatility slot has a slightly above average RTP of 96.61% and can see players win a grand total of 5,000x their initial stake, which is a cool £250,000 if players are playing with the maximum stake.
Our Verdict
There's quite a lot going on in this fast-paced cluster pays slot, and it might take a little bit of getting used to if this kind of game isn't usually your thing, but we have to say, we thoroughly enjoyed playing it and we'd highly recommend you give it a go as well, especially if you're a fan of the board game or other Monopoly-themed slots!
