Hacksaw Gaming is offering something completely different with its own take on area wins. Instead of a fixed area though, you'll get payouts where bombs and lasers attack the grid. It all sounds exciting so let's jump straight in.
You won't be looking out for paylines, scatters or even clusters in this game as you pick up payouts thanks to weapons destroying certain parts of the grid.
There are two types of bomb and two types of laser and they can both pick up wins as you hit the spin button. The small bomb explodes over a 3x3 area while the big bomb destroys a 5x5 zone. All winning symbols within that area are destroyed and their prizes are collected.
The regular laser shoots in a diagonal line with a one-symbol width and the super laser provides a three-symbol width. Any winning symbols within the lasers reach are added to your running total.
You’ll have shields to contend with and these protect some of the symbols. In essence, you have to hit the symbols more than once with a bomb or laser to ignite their power. The super laser will activate them immediately.
The shields are added to multiplier symbols and these can have values worth between 2x and 500x. Your activated multipliers are applied to your wins.
The other main spectacle that attacks this grid is the Orbital Bombardment strike which can collect winning symbols and help activate bombs and lasers.
Not much changes as you move into the bonus zone and you can either play Alien Attack or Extermination. Alien Attack requires the shield on an Alien Mind FS symbol to be destroyed and for this, you get eight free spins. You build up a progressive multiplier but you won't see it apply to wins until a new multiplier is added.
By contrast, the Extermination bonus game is 12 free spins and now the progressive global multiplier is added to all wins along the way. With both bonus games, you can pick up extra spins by breaking down the shield on corresponding FS symbols.
If you’d like to make each spin five times more likely to trigger a bonus game, you'll have to pay 3x for the privilege but it will not improve paytable values.
50x gets you a feature spin with at least one multiplier and one super laser symbol. 8 free spins can be bought in certain jurisdictions outside the UK at the cost of 80x and anyone who's feeling super lucky might want to pay 200x for the 12 Extermination spins. I had a crack at this game and walked off with over 500x thanks to the constant weapon modifications hitting the grid.
Bombs explode to remove symbols and collect wins within a 3x3 and 5x5 area. Lasers will shoot at symbols and have the same effect.
Break the shield on an FS symbol in the base game to trigger 8 free spins. It's pretty much the same game but now all activated multipliers get stored in the progressive meter and are applied to collected wins when a new multiplier is added. Extra spins are available.
Break the shield on a Power Core FS symbol and you'll get 12 free spins. Once again, the base game mechanics continue and on top of the progressive multiplier that you receive in the standard bonus game, this multiplier gets applied to all wins after each sequence. You can grab extra spins when you break the shield on more Power Core FS symbols.
Valuable prizes are highlighted throughout the base game and if you see enough bombs and lasers attacking the grid, it might even trigger the bonus game as well. It was there in the Extermination round where I picked up my best wins and it's all thanks to that progressive multiplier which is applied to each and every payout.
15,000x is a large max win but with reasonably high volatility, it might not be out of the question one day. The RTP is respectable at 96.31%.
