Pirates' Plenty: Battle for Gold Review
There are a huge variety of pirate themed online slots available to play in this day and age, and not all of them are great… But this one, this one is very special and MUST be played.
Pirates Plenty 2: Battle for Gold is not only the sequel to hugely popular slot Pirates Plenty: The Sunken Treasure, but it’s also developer Red Tiger Gaming’s landmark 100th release.
This 5-reel, 20 payline slot sees players climb aboard Captain Blackbeard’s ship as he sails into uncharted waters in search of trouble and treasure. There are three major bonus features that keep players on their toes with the Wild Island Row feature being the most lucrative, unlocking an entirely new reel to benefit from.
There are plenty of wilds, multipliers and free spins to be had in this swashbuckling slot, so what are you waiting for? Get your cutlass, stick your hat on and get ready to set sail!
Design
We have to say, Pirates Plenty 2: Battle for Gold looks absolutely stunning, which isn’t at all surprising considering this is a Red Tiger Gaming creation. From the moment the game is launched players are greeted with a chorus of cannon fire as a set of cannons fire upon an approaching enemy.
Very much like Pirates Plenty: The Sunken Treasure, the game is designed to look like you’re sitting in the captain’s quarters of Captain Blackbeard’s pirate ship. On the main table sits a compass, gun and piles and piles of gold.
Either side of the reels sits cannons, swords and you guessed it… Even more gold! The game reels themselves are set in the window of the cabin, looking out at any incoming threats. A large treasure map stretching the length of the game reels sits at the top of the screen.
Low paying symbols are gold coins with card symbols set into them in the form of colourful gems, these are the club, heart, diamond and spade. The high paying symbols include a vial of poison, a set of pistols, a cannon, a pirate hat and a skull and crossbones.
Exciting Hollywood-style music reminiscent of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies plays as the reels are spun, giving the game that extra bit of oomph that makes it feel big budget!
Gameplay
The most unique feature of Pirates Plenty: Battle for Gold is the fact that an additional reel can be unlocked which will boost the game up from 20 paylines to 30 paylines.
The game follows the same standard format as all Red Tiger Gaming slots, the stake can be set using a dropdown menu in the bottom left-hand corner of the game screen, the spin button is opposite this in the bottom right-hand corner.
Players can set up to 100 autospins by pressing the button next to the stake, however, to do so they must first set a loss limit indicating how much they’re willing to lose during this period.
Win Potential
Frustratingly, this excellent high volatility online slot has a lower than average RTP (sitting at 94.66%). Despite the RTP detracting from everything that makes this slot great, the maximum win does sit at 5,000x your initial stake which is pretty nice.
Players can only be in with a chance of winning the maximum payout once the final reel is unlocked as a result of the Wild Island Row feature. So expect to really slog it out in order to fully reap the rewards.
If you’re a new player with a small bankroll, perhaps stay away from this slot, if you’re a veteran with the bankroll to sustain a longer period of play than absolutely give this great game a spin.
Our Verdict
This beautifully designed, feature-filled slot is more than worthy of its landmark status as one of Red Tiger Gaming’s biggest and best releases to date. If you’re after an online slot with incredible production value that’ll have you on the edge of your seat then this is the one, despite its disappointingly below-average RTP.
