Of Sabers and Monsters Review
As the unofficial spiritual sequel to Vikings Go To Hell, Of Sabers and Monsters follows a group of warriors called Cossacks that must face a group of monsters and fight for their survival. However, not all is bad as these warriors love to fight and often stand victorious.
Developed by Yggdrasil, this action slot plays on 6-reels with 4,096 ways to win and features similar gameplay to Vikings Go To Hell. Players will find meters to build up characters as well as respins and multiple free spins leading to epic wins of up to 18,350x the stake.
Design
Set in a creepy-looking cornfield, Of Sabers and Monsters takes place in the middle of nowhere with a civilisation far off in the distance. Throughout spins, there is a breeze blowing throughout with clouds in the sky and trees shaking the wind.
On the reels, you'll find a group of warriors from a lute-playing woman to a rough-looking man smoking a pipe. Each of the characters looks like they mean business and that they are ready to battle at a moment's notice.
In terms of the monsters, these will appear during the free spins round with all the monsters looking like mythical creatures. They are all designed just as well as the characters.
There are many that may say this slot is just a reskin of Vikings Go To Hell, but there is so much detail put into the design, that you can't help but appreciate it. Of course, the music may be a little generic with the epic score but it fits in well with the visuals so it's not too off-putting.
Gameplay
Whilst this game shares similarities with Vikings Go To Hell, the gameplay is enhanced from that with even more features for the bonuses and is more exciting. Yggdrasil could've easily just copied it across with no change but at least shook up the format with the respin and sticky wilds.
Like most Yggdrasil slots, all the menus can be found at the bottom of the screen. However, it's worth saying that the menu has gotten even smaller and it may be hard for some people to see which is frustrating.
Win Potential
True Yggdrasil slots always have incredible win potentials and do not disappoint players. Of Sabers and Monsters abides by this with a strong RTP of 96% as well as a high volatility level leading to bigger wins but less frequently.
The best part of this slot is easily the big win of 18,350x the stake which is a grand amount which can be achieved through either of the free spin rounds with the Ardent Mode activated.
Our Verdict
Honestly, we had many expectations for this slot but were pleasantly surprised with the final outcome. There are some moments that are inspired by previous games, but the other parts feel original enough to make this game feel new.
With tremendous gameplay, wonderful designs and big wins, Of Sabers and Monsters will soon be a fan-favourite in no time! Be sure to give this slot a spin if you love any of the Viking Go slots or just classical Yggdrasil slots in general.
