Where do you start with a game like Nitropolis 5? Well, my advice would be Nitropolis 1. Things have progressed through the series with a range of features and add-ons that can seem a little complicated at first.
The basic idea is that the reels will grow and shrink as you land prizes on the top row and this can lead to millions of ways to win a prize. This stat is aided by the Nitro Reels which produce large clusters of matching symbols that'll come together and sit in one place.
Basic wins and symbols shown on the Nitro Reels are made up of regular pay symbols which include royals with a max 0.25x win for a group of 6; 4 Clan symbols, which pay 0.3x; and 4 picture symbols with a maximum 3x top payout.
Symbols need to land on adjacent reels and start on the leftmost reel to form a win. Winning symbols disappear and new ones come into place. As wins occur at the top of the reels, they push upwards and you'll also see the 3 screens move along with them.
The screens show features that you can enjoy during your adventure. One of those is the Boss Battle and to play this game, you'll need 3 Boss Battle coins. You have 3 re-spins and each time a shot hits a number, the respins are renewed. Numbers show multiplier values of your bet total and potentially the max win as well.
You can also trigger the NPD holding cell where a random symbol is chosen, and if it forms part of a win, those symbols are locked in place and the reels respin. This continues for as long as new symbols help improve the win. There are 11 Nitro Booster features in total and the others include max rows, both-ways wins, symbol upgrades, scatter pay wins, added wilds and more.
You'll need 3+ Bonus symbols to trigger the free spins game and if one is a super symbol, you'll get max rows, both ways wins and an NPD holding cell with each spin. Nitro reels are sticky throughout your free spins.
One random symbol is selected and if more symbols of that type take part in a win, they lock in place. You can keep building up matching symbols as they fill the holding cells.
The Boss Battle is a respin feature and your 3 spins are reset each time a shot hits the target. You'll pick up values which are multipliers of your bet amount.

Firstly, the volatility level isn't as high as you might expect for a game with a 50,000x max win (8/10). Some players outside the UK will have access to the X-iter menu and this might help produce bigger wins, but they come at a cost. The Bonus Hunt plays out for 3x and gives you a better chance of triggering the bonus game while Nitro Boost costs 10x and you get a spin with a Nitro Booster full of features. 25x will guarantee the triggering of the NPD Holding Cell and 100x takes you straight to the bonus game. 500x produces the super bonus game.
To get a feel for the super bonus game, I used the buy-in option to see exactly what these super 8 free spins would produce. It began with max rows and both way pays as my 2 main features and this quickly started pushing my bankroll higher and higher. After that, the wins started to dry up a bit but I did see the Holding Cell appear and some Nitro Reel upgrades as well. Unfortunately, I only walked away with a 145x win, which is nowhere close to the 500x buy-in figure! But, you can't expect top returns every time and regardless of the win size, the entertainment factor was there. It took at least 5 minutes to complete the bonus game!
There's an incredible array of design elements coming together to make Nitropolis 5 quite the spectacle. It takes a while to get your head around how these reels move and you've got to admire the techniques that have been employed to add such intricate visual features.
