Hellcatraz 2 Dream Drops Review
The original Hellcatraz slot had a lot going for it, so we were delighted by the prospect of an upgrade – particularly when it comes with some life-changing jackpot prizes attached!
The downside is that you’ll have to venture into the formidable prison of Alcatraz in search of prize payouts, but on the plus side, you’re free to leave whenever you like!
Design
Relax Gaming has developed something of a reputation for creating slot games with a retro theme, and they’re particularly fond of 8-bit games in particular.
The original Hellcatraz slot could have been created back in the 90s, but the design team have jazzed things up a bit for this outing, including the soundtrack. The game is fun and quirky, with plenty of fun animations – particularly when the free spins start and the police start buzzing around in helicopters.
Gameplay
Playing Hellcatraz 2 Dream Drop is pretty easy once you’ve got the hang of it, but the Mystery Reveal Feature takes a bit of getting used to. With every spin at least one number from 1-5 appears behind bars on the top row.
With every win, the number decreases by 1, and if it gets to 0 that reel expands upwards another 4 rows. The same symbol appears on each row, which could lead to a big win. - or the symbols could be coins, paying up to 1,000x your bet.
Land three bonus symbols to trigger 6 free spins, with an extra spin for every additional bonus symbol, including throughout the feature. The starting numbers for the Mystery Reveal Feature become lower during this round, increasing the likelihood of expanded reels.
Win Potential
The policeman is the highest-paying symbol in the game, but he only returns 2.5 your stake, so you’ll need to activate multiple wins to pull ahead. You’ll be hoping for the Mystery Reveal Feature to activate for the best winning potential, which could take you all the way to a top payout worth 10,000x the stake.
It’s the Dream Drop Jackpot prizes that you’ll really want to see spinning up on the reels. Pick three matching symbols to win one of five jackpot payouts, with a huge top prize that easily reaches into six figures.
The RTP is low at 93.99%, but that’s down to the progressive jackpot, which keeps climbing higher the more people play. It’s a highly volatile game too, so good bankroll management is a key requirement to get the most out of the game.
Our Verdict
We’ve seen plenty of crime-themed slot games, but few of them come with a massive progressive jackpot attached. The original game was a big hit with players, particularly fans of retro-style games, but even if you weren’t that impressed, you’re sure to want to take a look at this version.
With a big top prize, and the potential for a Dream Drop Jackpot, it would be criminal to miss out!
