If you haven't played a PopWins game before, then you're in for a treat! You might think that you've got a regular 5x3 set of reels on your hands but you would be mistaken. Wins are formed by landing three, four or five matching symbols on adjacent reels with the first symbol starting on the left-hand reel or the right-hand reel.
The lowest paying symbols are the royals and a group of five of these will only fetch you up to 0.6x your bet. The medium-paying picture symbols will deliver up to 1x and the high-paying symbols max out at 1.5x.
Each time a win occurs, the winning symbols disappear and the reels which have a symbol removed will grow. 6 is the maximum number of cells that you'll see on any reel.
Across the top of the game area is a horizontal reel and along here you can find some base game rewards. These rewards are applied to the reel directly below them.
The first addition to your game could be a multiplier worth x2 or x3 and these are added together if more than one lands at the same time. It's applied to any winning combination. Split symbols can occur with up to five of the same symbol appearing in the same cell.
Occasionally, you may find that a winning symbol covers the entire reel below and this expanding reward might help bring another win. Finally, two of the reels could synchronize with exactly the same symbols being displayed across both.
If you manage to get each of the reels to six symbols high, you enter the free spins bonus. But before you play your free games, you get to spin the Alien Wheel. This allows you to increase the number of free spins you get by taking a gamble. If you lose, you go back to the base game.
You start with 6 free spins and you could eventually have up to 18 spins. During the bonus game, the rewards that come down from above get a little more interesting. You might also see split symbols dividing into 10 of the same icons in each cell. Synced reels can also occur across three reels.

I was expecting the bonus game to be the only place to land any decent wins due to the small payout values of these regular symbols. However, the additions that arrive from above and the increased number of winways coming in from both sides are more than capable of landing you some base game rewards worth talking about.
The bonus game is fun and there are plenty of options if you're in an area that allows direct buy-ins but it's not the be-all and end-all. The 50,000x max win is incredibly eye-catching but I have no idea how long you’d need to play this game to land something that big. The volatility is extremely high, so you might see some one-off huge payouts here and there.
The anger and energy are matched by some aggressive guitar music and you can appreciate what the design team was trying to achieve. It looks great on smaller mobiles too and everything runs perfectly smoothly as the rewards arrive from above.
I don't usually get bored of the PopWins mechanic and when you add it together with a fantastic retro-feel and an enormous max win, in my eyes, you're onto a winner. I can see GamDOOM gaining quite a cult following moving forward!
