Diamond Doggies has 5 rows, 3 reels and 20 paylines. There are 9 regular paying symbols: 5 letters and 4 cute dogs. So far, a very generic slot. But where things get interesting is with the addition of Diamond Wilds and Doggie Wilds.
When a Diamond Wild hits in the base game, it fills up a section of 1 of the 4 progress bars above reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. There are 3 sections in each progress bar, and each Diamond Wild corresponds with one of the 4 dog characters. Once you fill up a progress bar, the corresponding dog turns into a Doggie Wild and changes all symbols of the same dog into wilds on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5. If on this spin, no Doggie Wilds make up a winning payline, then a respin is triggered.
All Doggie Wilds and Diamond Wilds are sticky during respins. If additional Doggie Wilds land, they are also held in place until the end of the spin. Landing another Diamond Wild when a progress bar is already filled will give you a multiplier of 1x.
Land 3 Free Spins scatter symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger the round and enter with 10 free spins. The great thing about this round is that any sections you’ve filled in the progress bars in the base game get transferred over. Filled progress bars reset only when free spins are complete. Therefore, any Doggie Wilds you create will remain on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 until the end of the round.
It took me quite a while to fill up any progress bars and start landing those Doggie Wilds. That said, once they started falling into place, the winning paylines soon followed. The free spins round isn't entirely different to the base game, but at least the Doggie Wilds remain sticky.
If you live outside the UK, there's also the option to buy your way straight into the free spins round for 40x or 150x your stake. This difference between these is that the former lets you enter the free spins with 1 section filled on every progress bar, while the latter lets you enter with 2 sections filled. This might be worth it, as it can take some time to fill up those progress bars on your own.

Diamond Doggies is advertised as a high volatility slot, meaning that you may be waiting around for some time before seeing those big wins hit. However, in my personal experience, this slot pays out a lot more frequently than you might think. Filling the progress bars can be difficult, but once those Doggie Wilds start to fill the reels, you could be in with for a very nice doggie treat indeed!
The RTP is a little low at 95.72%, but this isn't very far off the average for a game like this.
As mentioned, residents outside of the UK have the option to buy their way into the free spins round with a third or two-thirds of the progress bars already filled. This is an interesting proposition, but it by no means guarantees a massive payout.
The top prize is 10,000x, which I imagine is quite difficult to reach unless you are particularly lucky and keep making those Doggie Wilds and finding multipliers.
This game falls into the ‘sickly-sweet’ category of slots. The animations are beautifully done, and each dog is as fluffy and doe-eyde as you'd expect from a game in this genre. It's also a nice touch that each one of them constantly moves and they all have a very funny panting tongue stuck out at all times.
The backdrop in the base game is a green diamond-shaped pattern, with some actual diamonds floating around outside the purple, velvet-looking game board. This is inoffensive enough; however, when you move into the free spins round, this background turns into a hot pink number and you may feel as if your eyes are going to melt out of your head. The music is a rather regal-sounding score, which is ultimately very inoffensive.
This slot isn't for everyone, but it will certainly appeal to those who like a lighthearted game with some cute animations.
I didn't think I was going to like Diamond Doggies as much as I did. The free spins round isn’t too dissimilar from the base game, which usually irks me but in this case, the progress bars, Doggie Wilds and multipliers all make things a lot more interesting.
The game certainly sticks in your mind when it comes to design, and although Red Tiger is not the first game developer to do a dog-inspired slot, Diamond Doggies could be my top pick!
