Canny the Can and the Book of Time Review
Canny is an old favourite from Hacksaw Gaming appearing in classic slots such as Stick 'Em and Stack 'Em. He is a beloved character from the series that has sadly been forgotten due to the action-packed slots such as Wanted Dead or a Wild and The Bowery Boys.
Deciding to go back to basics, Hacksaw Gaming has brought back Canny in his own slot! Showcasing their own twist on a 'Book Of' slot, Hacksaw Gaming's Canny the Can and the Book of Time (also known as Book of Time) feature the free spins with expanding wild but also add in a unique time mechanic to shake up the gameplay.
Design
If you've played Stick ' Em and Stack' Em, then the visuals of this slot will look familiar. The overall style is designed to replicate a cartoon from the 1920s or 1930s with simplistic but colourful characters.
Next to the reels, Canny and his little mouse friend will bounce through the slot and animate during spins. This enhances the experience of the slot so much as it feels like the slot is coming to life.
Most of the symbols are actually quite dark with dead snakes and murdered crows. However, these symbols still adhere to the cartoon style making them look less graphic.
As for the music, there is a charming tune played throughout with a piano score paired with trumpet noises. It sounds exactly out of a Mickey Mouse cartoon and fits the visuals perfectly. To add to this, there are other ambient noises such as the mouse squeaking or the reels spinning which just adds the finishing touches.
Gameplay
This game contains familiar mechanics found in typical 'Book Of' slots. For instance, there is nothing going on in the base game but an excellent bonus round. In one of the bonus rounds, there are special expanding symbols that can fill up the reel leading to bigger wins.
However, that is not the only bonus round. This is where the game differs from a 'Book Of' slot. The 'What Time Is It?' bonus round contains free spins and multipliers. After all, it wouldn't be a Hacksaw Gaming slot without two bonus rounds.
Win Potential
It's safe to say that Hacksaw Gaming is consistent with win potentials often offering maximum wins of up to 10,000x stake and RTP over 96%. This slot adheres to that with an RTP of 96.13% and a maximum win of 10,000x stake.
To gain the biggest wins in Book of Time, you'll have to trigger the second bonus game with the multipliers going up to x12. 10,000x the stake is achievable but it may take some patience.
Our Verdict
This quirky slot definitely feels like old-school Hacksaw Gaming slots. Not only is the gameplay simple and entertaining, but the design is absolutely stunning. The developers feel embody the spirit of 1920s and 1930s cartoons.
Book of Time is a 'Book Of' slot but one that is done well and almost doesn't feel like one. The addition of two bonus games definitely helps with this. This slot feels modern without being too complicated.
With an excellent design, thrilling gameplay and tremendous win potential, it's easy to recommend Canny the Can and the Book of Time as a slot worth playing. This is definitely Hacksaw Gaming's triumphant return to its roots.
