Let's be honest, these old sea dogs don't have a lot to live up to given their first effort in Boom Pirates. It barely made it into the acceptable category, so things can only get better, right? You'd hope so with an improved max win of 20,000x and three jackpots available. Things are definitely looking up.
There's something about this game area that draws you in straight away. It's large and colourful and treasure chests are sitting at the top of the reels. It's a solid start and you can see that there are many different symbols available beyond the regular payers.
Speaking of which, you’ll see 40 paylines and you can look forward to royal symbols with a max win of 2x for a 5-of-a-kind. The picture symbols pay up to 10x.
Others include coins and collect symbols, which feed into their own mini-feature. Coin symbols create values of up to 50x and as you might expect, they increase in value from bronze to silver to gold. Land a collect symbol and you collect in the value of those coins.
The collect symbol will also add its own multiplier between 1x and 5x.
As coins land, they head up to the treasure chest at the top of the reels and there's a chance they could trigger the Pirate Treasure game. If you trigger the game with the bronze coin, then bronze coins will land during that bonus. Trigger it with silver coins or gold coins and those are your designated bonus coins.
The bonus game is a respin feature and every time one of these coins lands, you reset your three spins. There are also multipliers, extra spins and mystery symbols that can all do the same job and help modify your payouts.
No news on a direct bonus purchase just yet but there is a boost function for players outside the UK if they wish to pay a bit extra and increase their chances of triggering the bonus game.
I played the bronze version of the respin feature and beyond my regular wins, I also saw the mini jackpot land. I walked the plank with a 73x win.
Pirate coins are either bronze, silver or gold. They are worth up to 50x and you'll need a collect symbol to come along and grab their values. In addition, the collect symbol can also add up to 5x as a multiplier.
Pirate coins can trigger the treasure game and depending on which coin opens the chest, you'll see those bronze, silver or gold payouts available. Coins, multipliers, extra spins and mystery symbols reset your three spins and if you grab 20 pirate coins, you'll see the Grand jackpot worth 20,000x.
With values of up to 50x, you could see some interesting handouts as the coins land throughout the base game. It's a shame that you need a collector symbol, but at least they can also bring a 5x multiplier along to help your balance.
The bonus game didn't do an awful lot to enhance my wins but the added ability to collect jackpot prizes is an attractive prospect. The Grand prize comes by way of landing 20 coin symbols and you don’t need them to hit at the same time and complete the grid.
Medium volatility usually means that the wins will come quite frequently and the value of these wins should help to keep your balance afloat. The hit rate is just under 30%, which is great, and the RTP is 96.37%.
The original Boom Pirates game was pretty retro-looking and reminded me of an old Atari computer game. Things have moved since then – notice I didn't say moved on. Not necessarily better but it's definitely more modern. Those strange mannequin-style Pirates make up the cast of this action adventure and treasure chests now play a very important part!
There’s a bright turquoise ocean floating off to the horizon and the game appears to be set in the entrance of a cave. One of my favourite areas of the design is the little bats hanging upside down above the reels.
It's an epic Pirates of the Caribbean-style score that keeps you motivated as you hit the spin button and I've got no complaints with that.
Mobile users will also enjoy this strange but colourful creation that doesn't appear too complicated for newbies.
We didn't have great things to say about the prequel to this slot, but I'm pleased to say that things have certainly improved since then. The collect feature can add big wins if it's in the mood and the bonus game has an intriguing ability to blast you with a 20,000x jackpot. It’s worth your consideration at least.
