Every couple of years, Nolimit City blesses us with another addition to the Tombstone saga. We're on the 3rd outing now with Tombstone No Mercy and I hope they keep coming! Admittedly, this release feels like a step back in time, but I think there might be a few subtle differences to make it worthwhile.
The board is a little different from other games but this shouldn't leave you confused. There are 5 reels with a 2, 3, 3, 3, 2 row setup. Winning combinations take place from left to right and must begin on the leftmost reel.
Royal symbols are the lowest payers with 2x as the maximum payout. As you move through the picture symbols, you eventually arrive at the dynamite sticks with a 6x payout for a five-of-a-kind win. Winning symbols must land on adjacent reels to create the winning combos.
On reels 2, 3 and 4, you might see some Outlaw Wilds, which drop with multipliers in place. These are 3 rows high and they always nudge fully into view. With each step the wild nudge takes to become fully visible, the multiplier increases by 1. These Wild symbols substitute for other regular paying symbols.
You'll need a Sheriff's Badge and a Marshall's Badge to land on reels 1 and 5 to trigger 3 Justice spins - the shortest of the 3 bonuses. During your 3 bonus spins, the Outlaw Wilds stick in place so you get to enjoy them until the end of the bonus game.
To see a little more free action, you'll need 3 Scatter symbols to arrive on the reels. For this, you'll get the 10 Gunslinger Spins. There's an unlimited win multiplier that hangs around for the duration and once again, the win multiplier increases by 1 for each step that the Outlaw Wild requires to nudge into view. Land some more scatters and you get some more spins.
For the best chance of landing some incredible wins, Bounty Spins is the way forward. You trigger these by landing a Sheriff's Badge, a Marshall's Badge and the 3 scatter symbols as well. You get 12 Bounty Spins with a combination of the features from the previous free spins bonuses.
Players outside the UK can make use of the xBet system which provides 2 purchase options. The first comes with a 2x price tag and makes it twice as likely to activate free spins with a guaranteed Scatter or an Outlaw Wild on each spin. The second is the Outlaw Wild, which costs 5x and guarantees an Outlaw Wild on one of the 3 central reels.
These stacked Wild symbols bring a multiplier along with them and stand in for other regular payers. If they require 2 nudges to be fully visible, then the multiplier will increase by +2 but if they're only 1 step away, then the multiplier increases by +1.
A preview of the free spins bonus! Landing a Sheriff's Badge and a Marshall's badge on reels 1 and 5 give you 3 free spins and your Outlaw Wilds now stick throughout.
3 Scatter symbols score you 10 free spins with Wild symbols producing an unlimited win multiplier that stays around for the whole bonus. Again, with each step that the Outlaw Wild nudge takes, the multiplier increases by +1. Extra Scatters mean extra spins.
12 free spins are the reward for landing 3 Scatter symbols, a Sheriff's Badge and a Marshall's Badge. You get all of the modifiers coming together in this bonus game with Outlaw Wilds sticking to the reels, multipliers increasing by +1 and additional Scatter symbols presenting extra spins.
The win potential has sunk dramatically since Tombstone RIP - it’s now closer to the original Tombstone game. Whilst the RIP beast paid out nearly 300,000x at one point, you'll see a maximum 16,480x win in this game. The chance of landing a free spins bonus comes once every 174 spins, more or less, and the RTP is 96.05%. In case you couldn't guess, the volatility is extremely high!
Nolimit has stepped away from the gritty realism of Tombstone RIP and headed back towards the original cartoon-esque creation. Instead of watching the locals hang, you get to watch the symbols land on the gallows. It's still a good-looking game and you can enjoy everything across mobile devices as well - I didn't see much difference in quality whilst playing on a smaller screen. You get a standard Wild West theme tune, as you would expect.
The original Tombstone game had the same bonus features and a slightly lower max payout - Tombstone No Mercy hasn't really done much to push things forward. In terms of Tombstone RIP, there's not much you can compare as it's a completely different setup with different modifiers and features. However, the drop in max win is going to be a bitter pill to swallow for Tombstone RIP fans. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great game and if you're looking for solid features and a fun design, you won't go too far wrong here.
Tune in to the latest news about Tombstone No Mercy as it happens.
It's coming! The eagerly awaited addition to this mini-series has been in the works for a while and now the release date is super close. On 16 April we'll get our hands on a copy of Tombstone No Mercy and bring you a full review. Until then, here's what we already know.
It goes by the name of Outlaw Wilds, but the idea is the same. Stacks of WIlds will nudge down into view and bring an increasing multiplier along for the ride. Wilds play their usual role by substituting for all other regular pay symbols.
It doesn't look like too many surprises have been thrown into the mix with the setup looking quite similar to before. The main difference between this and the original is the variety of bonus buy options available. From what I can see, no less than 7 different points of entry can be bought (not available in the UK). The max win has tumbled downhill since RIP's 300,000x payout bonanza took shape, so fans should consider this carefully before they spin - if the huge wins are important.
