One of the things I loved about the original Heist Guys game was the opportunity to build up wins across the grid in a cluster pays formation. This time, it seems that the idea has been abandoned in favour of a more basic 1024 paylines. I won't write it off just yet, but they're going to have to work hard to get me back on side!
Matching symbols landing on adjacent reels give you over 1,000 ways to score a prize, and of those symbols, none of them will return your base bet. The key is to pick up feature modifiers as you play, and trust me, there are plenty of them.
The super wild will move to a new empty position before the symbols get refilled, and a multiplier will benefit the results if one or more super wilds are part of a winning combo. State symbols can increase the state jar, and this can pay a cash win, free spins, or take you to the heist game.
Speaking of which, this is the place where the Heist Guys move through the town towards the bank and collect items as they go. These can be safes, camouflage, an outlaw, keys, dynamite or guns.
The guys might get imprisoned, then rescued, and possibly steal a gun from an armed guard. Arriving at the bank sees these valuable rewards come to life thanks to the collected keys that could give you guaranteed access to the building, but if you don’t have a key, you'll have to break in, and you can also open the safe with your dynamite!
As if the Heist Guys feature wasn't enough, you can also enjoy a free spins bonus, and there’s a super version of this as well. You can pick up 8 free spins when you land three bonus symbols, and the maximum you can achieve is 12. If one of these symbols is a super symbol, you get a more advanced version of the game.
If the state jar is emptied and awards bonus drops, it automatically gives 8 free spins. In both games, super wilds and any collected guys are persistent between your spins, and if you trigger the heist, then you'll head off to play that first.
Outside the UK, you can pay 50x to go to the heist, or go to the free spins bonus for 100x.
The idea is to see your guys make it through the town and all the way up to the bank. If they collect keys, they'll get easy access to the building, and if they've got some dynamite, they can blow open the safe and boost your prizes. You can collect multipliers on the way and other helpful tools, but if you're caught, you'll all be thrown in prison.
You can either collect bonus symbols during a spin, or you can be awarded the free spins bonus thanks to the state jar. The game will continue as it did before, but there is a super version which gives you at least two super wilds when you start.
I never have any doubts about the payout opportunities from ELK, simply because I've had so many big wins from their titles over the years. In this game, it's possible to see the base game build up something fairly valuable, but I'd be tempted to get to the free spins bonus or the heist as fast as possible if you want to get your balance up anywhere near that 10,000x max win. The volatility isn't too high though, so you should see some regular wins of a decent amount.
Heist Guys 2 plays like a retro video game rather than a slot, and this is thanks to the incredible design team. They've done something similar before with Rogue Rats of Nitropolis, and you might see a few similarities if you pick up both games. Even if this is your first adventure with ELK, you'll still love what you see, but don't try to overthink it as everything starts playing out because the bird's eye view of a little wild west character playing Pac-Man isn't something you see every day!
The first in this pair of games scored pretty highly, and Heist Guys 2 deserves just as much praise – it's amazing to think how far these designers will go to create something different and stand out from the rest. While so many other slot producers are just churning out run-of-the-mill games, ELK is proud to be different.
