It's no secret that bonus games and base games can be pretty similar with just a couple of minor tweaks. However, that isn't the case in Heist Guys where you'll see your protagonist break free from the monotony of base game spins and make their way through the corridors to bust open safes and potentially release a 10,000x max win.
Across the six reels and six rows, you have a cluster pays mechanic delivering payouts when you land a minimum of five matching symbols that join vertically and horizontally. The lowest payers can only deliver up to 2.50x but higher payers can get you up to 250x.
As you hit a win, your winning symbols disappear and the grid gets repopulated. If a win takes place with a wild symbol, then the wild symbol starts to increase its multiplier from the standard 1x and this grows incrementally by one step with each of the following wins.
If this occurs with one of the character symbols, they automatically get upgraded to the gold bullion that can produce the highest wins.
Big symbols may arrive in a 2x2 or 3x3 format and these are counted as individual symbols to potentially bring you prizes in their own right. Alternatively, they could join with other matching symbols to produce a payout.
Three or more scatter symbols will trigger the bonus round and now you have a chance to make your way through the corridors to pick up loot from low-value safes and hopefully arrive at your destination where the max win is held.
Your three guys start at the bottom and move along a path with one of them being the leader – this changes depending on the number of steps they take. If one of these robbers is detained by a guard, then they head off to the cells until they are eventually freed or the game ends. This happens when your three Heist Guys are behind bars or they can go no further in their quest.
They'll open the easiest safes first with low-value instant cash and objects that are needed for later in the game.
Zappers will move guards out of the way, dynamite can help blast your way to the most valuable safe and a key card will gain you access to that point. If one of the characters opens the corresponding safe that matches their colour, then they'll pick up wins, including high-value coins or possibly even the maximum win of 10,000x.
Players outside the UK can go straight to the bonus game for 100x and if they'd like to enter with the three main objects already collected, they'll need to pay a staggering 500x. 25x will get you a spin with all Heist Guys upgraded and you’re guaranteed to get a super wild symbol with an x10 multiplier just in case a win occurs.
10x will get you two big symbols and a guaranteed 5x multiplier for any prevailing payout. 3x simply makes each spin four times more likely to trigger the bonus game.
Pick up a reward using the super wild symbol and you'll see it perform some magic. It moves to a random position before new symbols arrive and the multiplier value of that wild will increase with each combo. If this occurs with a Heist Guys symbol, you also see them upgraded to the most valuable symbols.
Land three or more bonus symbols and you'll be off to take on the heist of a lifetime. Your three protagonists will make their way through the maze of corridors looking for safes to loot with simpler ones containing more basic rewards and high-value ones producing the real goods. You can pick up the max win if you make it all the way to the end of this criminal adventure.
The base game is in charge of delivering simpler wins but you still get the benefit of that growing multiplier wild symbol. There are also some large symbols that can help create big paying groups and don't forget the upgrade could bring combos of the highest paying symbols. The bonus game is by far the most intriguing section of the creation and it's here you can pick up the necessary tools to complete your mission and potentially grab the 10,000x max win.
Heist Guys is a game of two halves in terms of gameplay, win potential and design. The basic grid delivers your cluster pays and includes some impressive animations at the same time. However, everything changes when you get into the bonus game and watch this intricate plot unfold. The graphics are purposely a little retro and I think that works well for a game of this variety. You won't get to appreciate everything on a smaller mobile screen but it is still playable. ELK’s thought about everything during the design phase of making this slot and you even get to enjoy a little gangster rap beat as you take a spin in this pink convertible!
Heist Guys is an exceptional slot and it's obvious that a great deal of thought has gone into the mechanics and the visual delivery that modern slot fans are looking for. It is a far cry from a standard five reel game that many of you may be used to, so be prepared for a steep learning curve if you've never tackled anything like this before.
