Leprechaun Heist Review
We can always depend on Relax Gaming to come up with something new and exciting and now they’re created an unusual Irish and crime-themed mashup with Blue Guru Games (known for slots such as Napoleon vs Rabbits).
The action takes place in Boston during a St Patrick’s Day parade, with the noise of the celebrations drowning out any sounds of a bank heist in Leprechaun Heist.
Design
Rather than the usually green hills and rainbows of a typical Irish-themed slot, Relax Gaming has gone for a darker and grittier feel. The members of the Leprechaun Gang are looking for a way into the bank, surrounded by bunting, flags and balloons, as some funky folk-themed music plays out.
It’s darker than we’d expect from an Irish-themed game, so forget about any mythical or fairy-tale elements – this is a heist, after all!
Gameplay
Although Leprechaun Heist presents as a 5x5 game, the reels can change at any time to show 6x6 or even 7x7 symbols. Wins occur whenever 8 or more matching symbols appear anywhere on the grid – they don’t have to be adjacent to award a cash prize.
Every win is evaluated before winning symbols are removed from the reels. New icons drop down, and if they result in a win, those symbols also disappear. Every winning reaction results in a bullet being added to the Ammo Meter, which sits alongside the reels. Every 4th bullet collected in a sequence results in a reel modifier:
- 4 bullets – dynamite Wilds are added to the reels.
- 8 bullets – one symbol is randomly upgraded.
- 12 bullets – one symbols is randomly transformed.
- 16 bullets – the Heist Free Spins Bonus is triggered. During the Heist Free Spins Bonus, reaching the top of the meter awards 5 additional free spins.
As long as winning reactions keep occurring, you’ll keep climbing higher up the Ammo Meter. Once no more wins occur the win is awarded and the meter resets back to 0, ready for your next paid spin.
Win Potential
The more matching symbols you collect with each spin, the better the rewards, with the maximum payouts awarded for matching 25 or more symbols. For low-value gemstones the returns could reach 3x your bet, climbing a little higher for matching bank notes and gold bullion. The best returns come from the gang members, who pay between 15x – 30x the bet for filling the reels.
Big wins can occur during any stage of the game, but the random multipliers during free spins could push these wins even higher. This is the feature most likely to deliver up the max win worth 6,706x your bet.
Some jurisdictions allow you to buy the bonus feature for 75x your current wager, although the UK isn’t one of them. Note that buying the bonus doesn’t mean you’ll automatically win back the cost of activating it, so don’t assume it’s a fast track to a positive outcome!
Our Verdict
Most Irish-themed games tend to be whimsical, but that’s not an accusation anyone will be making about Leprechaun Heist! This is a genuinely new take on an overworked theme and one that we hugely approve of!
The action is fast and furious, with the dynamic grid adding to the fun. Collecting bullets and triggering the modifiers adds an extra dimension to gameplay, with the chance of some big wins. The top payout isn’t a life-changing amount, but this is a fun and accessible game that’s sure to keep you entertained.
