The action takes place down a mine with 5x4 game area with 30 paylines. Starting from the leftmost reel, players have to land matching symbols along these paylines to win. The different coloured jewels are the high pays, and they’re worth up to 25x.
There’s an extra reel that sits above the grid, which is limited to special symbols that come in from right to left. It was a while before I was able to trigger it, but once I was there, it was hard to get away. I was really impressed by Gold Dig’s win potential, both in the base game and in Free Spins. The game’s RTP is a decent 96.4% and the standard winning combinations are worth a decent amount. Extra Prizes are worth up to 250x and seem to fall quite frequently. Due to there being plenty of paylines, I was able to hit winning combos quite often, too, which is surprising given the game’s high volatility.
In Free Spins, things get really nuts, as the different cash prizes that can land are both epic in name and in nature: land an Epic Cart and you can win between 250x and 5,000x - the game’s max win. Having played the round a couple of times, I’d say that the max win isn’t confined to the realms of fantasy.
The setting is a top-down view of a mining pit with the bottom of the pit illuminated by a warm glow emanating from the mines that lead off from the main pit. The layout is nice and clear, so the game’s not hard to get to grips with. The lighting and artwork for the background are really impressive and the contrast between light and dark gives the bird’s-eye view of the pit a lot of depth. Curiously, I found the animations of the reels really jerky when playing on desktop. On mobile, it wasn’t as noticeable, but it was still there. The music is some mid-West-sounding banjo music, which is nice and melodic, and it doesn’t distract from play.
Given the game’s name and theme, I wasn’t expecting too much from Glow Dig, but I loved it! Both the base game and free spins round are highly engaging. The backdrop is beautiful, the music is good and there are lots of veins rich with win potential. Hard hats off to Max Win Gaming.
