The Walking Dead Review
If you have ears and eyes, you'll be familiar with AMC's The Walking Dead. The series started in 2010 for 15 years and spawned countless spin-off shows and even movies.
It all originates from the graphic novel by Robert Kirkman and follows a group of survivors trying to live in a world full of monsters - but they soon find out that zombies are the least of their worries.
Developed by Playtech, this branded slot plays on 5-reels with 50 paylines and features a whole host of features including 5 free spin options, a respin mechanic and even four fixed jackpots.
Design
As the slot opens, you'll notice a background that looks directly from the show with walkers surrounding the building and a settlement inside. It should be noted that each of the bonus features take you to an individual screen unique to the bonus which is an amazing attention to detail that fans will love.
The reels contain your favourite characters from the show including Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Carol. (Melissa McBride), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). There are also traditional letter symbols - but these have the characters weapons on which is another little detail that completely changes the game.
In terms of sound design, you can expect the ambient sinister music that most fans will know and be familiar with. You'll also hear dialogue from characters such as "They're screwing with the wrong people" and other iconic lines.
Gameplay
For a TV/Movie slot, you often expect basic gameplay but this slot comes absolutely packed full of unique features and amazing gameplay to keep any fan entertained.
There are 5 different free spin options paired with a respin mechanic delivering solid gameplay. All the menus you may need are at the bottom of the screen.
Win Potential
As this is a branded slot, we were expecting a mediocre win potential but definitely did not expect a low RTP of 94.12% which is under the average acceptable standard. Despite this low RTP, we actually found our gameplay strangely rewarding and even left with a decent profit - but that was our experience.
There's a medium volatility level leading to a mix of high volatility and low volatility wins. In this slot, you can only win up to 2,000x your stake which isn't earth-shattering but it's a decent amount for a medium volatility slot.
Our Verdict
If you are looking for a faithful branded slot that feels like the developers actually cared and paid attention to the show - then check out The Walking Dead slot.
There's no denying that the RTP is low - but the gameplay, design and features will surely keep you entertained. This is a must-play for fans of the series and slot players in general as the free spin and respin mechanic work brilliantly delivering hours of fun.
