Space Goonz Review
Habanero has gone down the route of a more traditional slot in some ways. There’s a standard 5 reel setup with 4 rows. And even though the symbols fly down through a mystic tube, they still land in a regular fashion.
What they have done to inject a little more action is to do away with the standard win lines. Wins only need to land on adjacent reels and given the grid size, this means that 4x4x4x4x4 ways are in play. 1,024 chances to land a prize with every spin always creates a buzz with every spin.
The Space Goonz RTP is just above the industry average at 96.66%. As such, you can expect a more than reasonable outcome in the long run. The house effectively has a theoretical edge of 3.34% over the course of an enormous number of spins. So nothing to cause concern on that front.
The game uses HTML5 coding to make it accessible to everyone regardless of their choice of device. And this allows Apple and Android customers to challenge those cheeky spacemen whenever and wherever.
Design
If bright, colourful and just plain weird was what Habanero was going for, then it managed to pull it out of the bag! The game is set on a purple moonscape with the universe passing by peacefully in the distance. The main protagonists are multi-legged and occasionally multi-eyed with the power to make your balance look pretty hefty if everything goes your way.
The soundtrack is perfect for the occasion and isn’t one of those that you have to switch off after 30 seconds because it starts to grate on you. It’s almost serene and calming until reality brings you back down to earth as a 1-eyed snake lands on the screen.
It’s all fairly standard for a space-themed slot but there’s something about Space Goonz that gives it an edge. The symbols hover above their reel tubes and are animated which brings the game to life. Those fine details make all the difference in the slots realm.
Gameplay
It’s possible to play Space Goonz manually or using autospins—for fans outside the UK. Although it is difficult to see where the wins land on autoplay as the game doesn’t stop long enough to show you.
You’re in control of your own budget with bet level and coin value options both available. More frugal customers will like the 0.20 min bet value while high rollers can get a staggering 5,000 wager at the other end of the scale.
The main drawback on the design front is with the upgrade feature. The symbols get a boost, as you know, during this game to increase their values. To show off their new powers, the images change. But the difference is so slight that it seems like a lot of effort probably went into creating something that not many players are going to notice.
Win Potential
Space Goonz isn’t the huge-paying star that you might have hoped it would be. The max win is set at 3,624x the stake and this just doesn’t cut it with some of the big boys out there. The average is usually around 8,000x so that’s quite a gap.
However, the medium volatility does help matters somewhat. Wins are constantly landing but with values often less than the stake so you’ll need to hope for a big payday during the free spins round or when the wilds come passing through.
You won’t need a massive bankroll to enjoy the game for a long period if you budget sensibly. But be aware that the free spins round is a little shy and probably won’t appear regularly.
Our Verdict
Some space slots make no effort to stand out in this competitive genre but Space Goonz has gone the extra mile. It keeps a simple game format for the most part and then mixes things up with wild symbols working overtime.
It might not share the intricacies of Reactoonz, for example, but it does enough to stop it from feeling like just another title out there orbiting the gambling industry. Anyone looking for something a little different, with a nice soundtrack and plenty of ways to win should give this game some consideration.
