Rum & Raiders Review
Rum & Raiders is the brand new title from Iron Dog Studio, a software developer known for its dynamic games. As soon as you launch the game, there is no doubt as to its theme. You see a giant pirate ship bobbing away happily in the background, with the 5x4 game board in the middle.
With 5 reels and 4 rows, Rum & Raiders creates a very generous 40 paylines to work with, and with tons of special features thrown in, Rum & Raiders makes for a very exciting pirate adventure.
Design
While we will admit that the animations and graphics are very well done in Rum & Raiders, the truth is that when you open the game the 5x4 grid full of different characters, along with the grand ship in the background, is quite a visual assault.
There is an awful lot going on in this game, and while the symbols are very unique, they get a bit lost in the mix; especially considering the game board is rather small and the pirate ship background takes up a lot more space than is necessary.
But if you can squint your eyes and get past the colourful mess that is this game, you'll find that Rum & Raiders is rather fun to play. And of course, no pirate-themed game would be complete without a suitably epic soundtrack, and we're pleased to say that Iron Dog Studio has done a great job of livening up this title with some great Pirates of the Caribbean-type music.
Gameplay
Rum & Raiders has tons of special features, including 2 unique bonus rounds, but at its heart, this is still a standard slot game. Therefore, your job is to match symbols across the 5 reels, moving left to right. And with 40 paylines up for grabs, Rum & Raiders is definitely on the generous side when it comes to opportunities to make winning combos.
Scatter symbols are the key to the bonus games, both of which give you tons of chances to land multipliers. As mentioned, we're not too keen on the overly busy design elements of the game, but it is still very easy to get the hang of, and gameplay proves to be fast-paced and rather exciting.
We love the cannonball that smashes open wooden crates to reveal various rewards in the Broadhouse Bonus game, and with 5 different crewmates offering various multipliers in the Hold & Win bonus round, Rum & Raiders is a lot more exciting to play than many other pirate-themed games on the market.
Win Potential
Probably this game's biggest USP is the absolutely enormous jackpot prize of 25,000x. But with such an amount of ‘booty’ on offer, Iron Dog Studio is going to make you work for it.
This slot is highly volatile, meaning that it will not pay out often. But when it does, the results should be very decent. And with a slightly above-average RTP of 96.08% plus 40 paylines, Rum & Raiders gives you lots of ways to have fun and hopefully walk away with a great amount of loot.
Our Verdict
Rum & Raiders from Iron Dog Studio is fun, fast-paced and certainly lives up to its adventurous name. The crewmate characters, 2 separate bonus rounds and massive jackpot prizes all make this game a very tempting proposition. And we love the big production soundtrack and energetic gameplay.
The overall design of the game is a bit of a sensory overload, but we can forgive Iron Dog Studio for this visually messy slot when it provides such a great gaming session and, ultimately, an extraordinarily juicy jackpot!
