Despite being a Christmas-themed slot, Triple Edge Studios has decided to break with tradition in that winning combinations aren’t restricted to starting from the leftmost reel. In Fire and Roses Jolly Joker, you just need to land matching symbols on 3 adjacent reels, starting from either the leftmost reel or the rightmost reel.
There are 5 reels and 3, 4 and 5 rows, the rows getting bigger as you move toward the centre. High-pay symbols are, in ascending order of value, a stocking, a gingerbread man, two bells, and a present. Land a 5-of-a-kind, and you can win up to 8x the bet. The low pays are the card suits. With these symbols, 5-of-a-kinds can be worth up to 1.2x the bet. Jolene the Joker is the game’s Wild symbol. This symbol substitutes for all standard pay symbols but only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4.
You’ll notice above all reels that there’s a Jackpot Accumulator. This shows you the current value of the corresponding jackpot, whose value increases every time a Golden Rose Jackpot Trigger symbol lands on the same reel. It’s not the first time that this character, Jolene the Joker, has appeared either. She made her first outing in a very similar slot, Fire & Roses Joker. In fact, this game is pretty much identical, save for the Xmas theme. It boasts some interesting-looking features, not to mention a quite decent 724 win ways.
The graphics are fairly run-of-the-mill. Nevertheless, the roaring fire below the game area did go some way toward making me feel festive, but the music isn’t particularly Christmassy, mind. It sounded more like something you’d hear at an early 20th-century pier or fairground. It wasn’t half catchy, though. Also, I can’t put my finger on why, but I found the xylophone sound effects very satisfying!
I was impressed by the gameplay on the whole, and I kind of liked how the jackpots are exclusive to the base game. Winning combinations seemed to land frequently and I found the Free Spins round something that you wouldn’t have to wait until next Christmas for. Hopefully, you'll get the same treatment!
I was hoping for a bigger max win from a highly volatile slot such as this, but the Jackpot and Free Spins Scatters seemed to fall quite regularly. The values of the jackpots are almost constantly increasing, and the Free Spins round seemed to trigger quite frequently as well. In short, the game felt quite generous.
