They say that nobody's perfect and by the look of these alternative holiday characters, some of us are downright twisted. Cupid's got a machine gun, the Halloween Jack O'Lantern looks set to put the fear of God in you and I'm pretty sure that Santa's three sheets to the wind.
There are 20 paylines across the five reels and three rows. Wins pay from the lefthand side and you have royals and pictures to contend with. Royal symbols will pay up to 2x and picture symbols pay up to 50x.
The top of the screen shows the goal for each spin with a multiplier that you need to try and hit in order to get a Happy Return with a boosted win. I wouldn't dwell on it but occasionally it can come in handy.
As you spin, you’ll see arrows moving you along the trail from left to right and vice versa. Once you start, you don't necessarily continue in the same direction though. Place number four on the trail is a boost and this could push you to one of the features but it might not be enough.
As you arrive at one of the three features on each side, you unleash the power and the fun that awaits you. You could end up with an escape game where you keep moving from side to side until Santa catches you, or you could head up the grid as you collect cash prizes and multipliers. There are huge wins and very basic wins teasing you in all of the bonus games and it's all a matter of luck, as you can probably guess.
There is a direct purchase into the bonus area for 100x and this will select a random bonus game. Each time I tried the buy-in, I landed on the Trick or Treat game or Cupid's Climb. The payouts were fairly small for a while but then eventually Jack came to life and handed out some big multipliers. 84x was the best I managed.
Boost figures take you back and forth between the features to the left and right of the trail. You could end up landing Free Spins, Easter Heist, Cupid Climbs, Sleigh Escape or Trick or Treat.
Get to section 10 at either end of the trail and you'll get free spins. Here, you can win up to 456x with each spin. Multipliers increase and are applied to each win. Move along the trail and you'll get more free spins.
Section 9 on the left-hand trail takes you to the Easter Heist. Pick an arrow to hunt for eggs and you might even find the Easter Bunny! If you get caught, it's game over.
On the right-hand side of the trail, section 9 takes you to Sleigh Escape where you choose arrows to search for gifts and a sleigh. Once again, if you're caught, it's game over. This time, it's Santa who will catch you out.
Choose a section on the first layer to win cash awards and multipliers. Once you hit an up arrow, you go to the next level. Continue to choose your prizes but once you get to the top, it's the end of the round and you'll take your wins away with you.
Section 8 on the right-hand trail takes you to this feature which is fairly similar to Cupid's Climb. Select spaces on each level to win cash prizes and multipliers until you reach the top of the grid and finally tap out.
Regardless of the fun factor, I didn't manage to push my balance anywhere close to the max 5,000x win. I saw some decent payouts throughout the base game and at times, my bankroll was keeping its head above water. Ultimately, I needed a big push from the bonus games to keep me feeling positive and it was there in the Trick or Treat game that I picked up an 84x win.
The volatility is only medium, so you should see fairly regular payouts but don't expect them to be huge all the time. If you're going to see the massive wins, you'll need everything to come together at the right time. The RTP is just under 96%.

There's nothing worse than stuffy, formal and preordained ideas of how the holiday seasons should be – Rogue seems to follow that mantra and they had a lot of fun turning it on its head. It's not what I expected and I continued to discover new parts of this game that weren't obvious before. It's a grower and hopefully, that Happy Return multiplier will be as well.
