Thunderways is the new way to look at payline structures, according to ReelPlay and their associates! The first thing to note is that symbols landing on reels 1 and 2 along the same row create an active line. The active symbols on that line can now form wins as long as another one appears on the same row on reels 3, 4 or 5. It's worth pointing out that the third symbol doesn't have to be on the third reel to trigger a prize.
Winning combos between 3 and 11 symbols strong are possible thanks to the size of the grid and the way that wins are formed. The lowest payers are the royals and these will fetch you up to 12x. Picture symbols include various crustaceans and other delights from the ocean, which present payouts worth up to 160x for a group of 11 dolphins.
Wild symbols substitute for those mentioned above and can bring an x2 multiplier, which is applied to any prize. The only other symbols that you'll see are the bonus symbols which can appear anywhere on reels 3, 4 and 5. Three of these trigger the Thunderspins bonus and now you may have an even better opportunity to hit those big payouts.
The first two reels only contain multipliers worth between 1x and 10x. You need two of these to land next to each other in order to activate the game area, so to speak. As they activate the area, the multipliers are added together to increase the payouts that are hopefully about to come your way. They become an active symbol as they line up together and now you simply need a prize symbol to land on the same row to keep you in the bonus game.
You have three lives and if you fail to match up an activated symbol with a prize symbol three times in a row, it's game over. But as mentioned, if you keep landing activated symbols and prize symbols, then you stay in the bonus round.

It didn't take me more than about 30 spins to activate the bonus game but when I arrived I wasn't quite prepared for how long I was going to stay there. If you're lucky, like me, you'll be there for a while picking up multipliers and big prize symbols. After about 5 minutes, I finished up with over 60x.
The reels present a different prospect during the bonus game as now you need two multipliers to line up on a row before you can grab any winnings. You might get standard prizes worth between 1x and 3.3x or it could be a collection of jackpots that grow up to 1,000x in size.
The base game produces plenty of small wins, so you won't be waiting around for long to see some action in this game. It has a pretty high hit rate and low volatility which means your eyes will be kept busy for the duration.
Not all wins will amount to the same size as your bet, but I found that many of them exceeded it. In my experience, it was pretty forgiving on my balance and with a low max win of 2,194x, there's nothing about this slot that felt overhyped or unrealistic.
Pushing your bankroll towards the top end of prizes on offer will probably require a few trips to the bonus game, but if you can pick up the huge top jackpot prize, then it could be done in one go potentially.
