StacKing Kong Review

Certainly one of the strangest slots I've reviewed for a while! Watching Kong climb to freedom is a completely different slot experience and it could lead to a pretty decent payout at the top of the tower. It's all about weighing up your options and knowing when to walk away from a bad deal. Intriguing, isn’t it?!

Gameplay & Features

You might have what looks like 5 reels to play with in this game but you'll soon realise that reels mean nothing here! It's more like a giant game of Tetris with a big red ape trying to climb out of the game area.

Choose your bets at the beginning from 20p to £100 and the next task is to hit the spin button. This releases 9 blocks and if you're lucky enough, It'll take you a fair way up the side of this skyscraper.

You’re now faced with a choice of progressing further if you think it's worth it, or ending the game. I told you it was strange and I wasn’t lying!

You get 3 options to the left-hand side to buy 1, 2 or 3 blocks and each one comes with its own price tag. The purpose of buying an extra block is to move further up the tower and pick up bigger wins.

Decision Time

Those wins might not necessarily be worth the gamble. Sure, everyone can make it to the top of the tower and watch Kong complete his mission, but there's no point if the 1,000x win is nowhere near as much as you paid out to get him there.

This kind of risk is at the heart of the entertainment in this game and in some ways, it’s similar to a traditional crash game where you get to decide when enough is enough. But StacKing Kong has a completely different feel to it and It’s hard to think of it under the traditional ‘crash game’ umbrella.

As you continue to climb, you see the additional blocks and prizes available and you're constantly wondering how many blocks you really need to get even higher and make each game financially worth your while. It's a real teaser and you have to play it to appreciate it fully. I couldn't put this one down and even though it's a simple concept, I just wanted to keep on pushing Kong further towards freedom.

Blockchain

You start with 9 blocks and you can collect more plus cash prizes as Kong climbs towards the top of the tower. Purchase more blocks to increase your chances of winning bigger prizes.

Win Potential

The max 1,000x payout isn't the most extreme reward for getting this scarlet monkey to its destination. However, you’re in control of how far you want to push your luck and that possibly gives you a better chance of walking away with a decent amount in your balance.

The option to take your money and run or keep playing kind of removes any volatility from the situation and anyone looking at potential return stats might be slightly less than happy with the 94.38% RTP that reduces to 94% with each block you purchase. I guess that's the price you pay for having more control over your wins.

I made it to the top of the tower a few times and generated a fairly decent return on my investment as I played. Sometimes the options for purchasing extra blocks simply weren't worth the effort and you need to keep this in mind.

Design

Fans of old-school comic book creations are going to fall in love instantly with a StacKing Kong. It's a top adventure with various commentaries injecting from all angles and typical characters trying to take Kong down as he makes his escape attempt.

Sirens ring out as you choose your bets and hit the spin button for the first time and then the blocks begin to crash downwards. The music heightens the tension and as Kong climbs you hear an alarm accompanying the next drop of blocks. Getting even further up the tower only makes things more exciting and keeps you on the edge of your seat - don't forget that you can take part in this adventure on mobile devices as well.

Our Verdict

I always assume that games like StacKing Kong are going to be a bit basic and possibly not worth playing, but they catch me out every time! This slot, perhaps more than most, showed me that there really is an alternative slot world out there that's worth exploring. I'm pretty sure you’ll be just as pleased with the results.
