As mentioned, it took me a while to get into the free spins round, which is definitely where you have the most opportunity to create paylines and pick up multipliers. I walked away with a few quid in my back pocket but by no means enough to buy everyone in the saloon a round!
The team at Pragmatic has done a very decent job with Cowboys Gold. Although the Wild West theme has been saturated over the years, this is a very nice example of a Cowboy-themed adventure game.
The backdrop is a candle-lit saloon, complete with whiskey barrels and wagon wheels propping up the game board. The reels have an authentic distressed wood outline, and all of the symbols are nicely rendered. The 7 different Cowboy symbols are all unique, and it shows that a lot of thought has been put into the design of this slot.
The soundtrack is a very typical banjo-inspired ditty, but unlike a lot of other games where the music can get a bit too hectic, I didn't have to turn the sound off on this one.
Overall, Cowboys Gold is a good-looking slot that creates the atmosphere of a Wild West saloon and its punters very well.
I didn't expect to like Cowboys Gold as much as I did. I'm not a huge fan of the Western genre in general, but this game has a little bit more to it than a lot of other titles out there.
The animations are fun, gameplay is dynamic, and the free spins round kicks things up a notch as you reach for that 6,065x prize.
It would have been nice to get into the free spins around a bit earlier, but of course you can't have everything!
