Candy Stars Review
Quality is built into the heart of Pragmatic Play slots, so there are always high expectations centred around the launch of a new game. This certainly isn’t the first time that the developer has dabbled with a candy theme, which always seems to be popular with players.
But as we know, it’s the mechanics that ultimately determine the success or otherwise of any slot, and Pragmatic Play always aims to please!
Solid gameplay and some interesting features make this worthy of closer investigation, so here’s a rundown of the game’s design, controls and win potential.
Design
Sugary sweets and candies are fairly timeless, but we detected a hint of a retro theme going on in the design of Candy Stars. Purple sequins and stars in the background give a definite 80s flavour, which is backed up by the soundtrack.
The graphics are bold and chunky, making this a great game to play on handheld devices, as well as on larger screens.
Gameplay
Start by adjusting the size of your bet using the buttons on either side of Spin. Then start the reels spinning and wait to see where they land. The extra horizontal reel above reels 2, 3 and 4 means that there are 576 Ways to Win with every single spin. Just match symbols on adjacent reels across at least reels 1, 2 and 3 to win a cash prize.
Land 3 diamond Scatters to activate the free spins feature. Once you’ve set the bonus round in motion, it plays without the need for any further interaction from you, so you can sit and watch the action unfold – and hope for a big payout at the end of it, although that’s never guaranteed!
Depending on where you’re located, you might be able to Buy the Bonus for 80x your current wager. This is a feature that’s available in some jurisdictions, although unfortunately, the UK isn’t one of them.
Win Potential
Every Tumble increases the value of any Wild multipliers, so even during the base game there’s the possibility of some big wins. The Wild multiplier is capped at 128x, and with the top-paying purple candy paying up to 7.5x your bet, that gives the possibility of some major payouts.
The top prize is capped at 5,000x. That’s not the biggest amount that can be won on a slot machine, but it’s far from being insignificant. The high volatility makes this a game more suited for players with a flexible bankroll, so if you’re playing with a more modest budget, we recommend playing it for free to begin with.
Our Verdict
It’s not going to be to everyone’s taste, but we think Candy Stars is definitely going to be popular with players. A fun theme and the potential for some decent wins combine with some strong features to create an entertaining game.
But what else would we expect from the developer that brought us Sweet Bonanza? Although Candy Stars doesn’t come with that same 21,175x max win, there are still some excellent opportunities for scooping a few cash payouts – including that top 5,000x prize.
