Buffalo Smash is yet another original and intriguing slot from developers Octoplay. The grid’s made up of 15 sectors, all potentially filled with buffalo cash symbols. See if you can catch enough buffalo to trigger Free Smash and potentially win the 500x max win.
This is not your run of the range slot. Instead of rows and reels, there are 15 different sectors, each with their own allotted prize. The prizes are 0.5x, 0.7x, 1x, 2x, 2,5x, 3x, 3,5x, 4x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 15x, 20x and 25x the stake. There’s also the Free Smash prize, but I’ll explain that later.
The layout is 4 rows, with 4 sectors on each row, except for the one at the front, which has 3. The least valuable prizes are at the back, while the more valuable ones and the Free Smash symbol are at the front. On each spin, a lasso is thrown to try to snag one of the prizes. If a buffalo appears in that same sector, the prize is yours.
On any spin, the Multiplier feature can randomly trigger. If it does, you’ll see an eagle fly over the sectors, adding multipliers to up to 5 different sectors. The possible multiplier values are 2x, 3x and 5x.
If you manage to lasso a buffalo on the Free Smash sector, you trigger the bonus game. You get 10 opportunities to throw your lasso. Every time you snag a prize, that sector stays permanently lassoed, so whenever a bull appears there, you’ll win its prize again.
The Buffalo Run feature can be randomly triggered on any Free Smash spin. If this happens, buffalos will appear in all sectors, so any lassos that’ve already stuck to the grid will pay out. Buffalo Run also triggers the Multiplier feature!
You’ll also notice that the Free Smash symbol has changed to a 50x multiplier. This is only available in Free Smash. The round continues until you’ve used up your 10 lasso attempts or until the game’s 500x max win has been triggered.
The game’s setup is a little unorthodox – 15 sectors filled only with unchanging instant cash prizes – but it is in fact a very simple slot. Despite its simplicity, it is highly engaging. You won’t win life-changing sums, but you’ll at least win regularly. This was definitely my experience and I was lucky enough to hit some big wins, too.
The game has its fair share of interesting features, too. The Multiplier can trigger on any spin. Again, because of the low volatility, you probably won’t be spinning for an eternity before you see it.
The Free Smash bonus round looks very similar to the base game, but the fact that your lassos stick to the grid means you can see some really big wins. During Free Smash, you might also be lucky enough to see the Buffalo Run feature, which doesn’t just place buffalo everywhere on the grid, but it also works in tandem with the Multiplier feature.
Keep an eye out for the eagle. On any spin, it can soar over the grid and drop up to 5 multipliers on top of the different sectors. If you lasso a bufallo on one of these sectors, you could see your win multiplied by 2x, 3x or 5x!
If you manage to lasso a buffalo on the Free Smash sector, 10 free smashes are awarded. Every successful lasso sticks to the grid, so you can win the same prize again and again. Also, the max prize of 25x is increased to 50x.
Buffalo Run can trigger on any spin during Free Smash. Watch as buffalos run to fill all 15 sectors, so you’re guaranteed a prize. Buffalo Run also triggers the Multiplier feature.
The game’s RTP is 95.74%, which isn’t massive, but the game’s volatility is very low. You definitely notice this while playing as hits are quite frequent. That said, the values of the wins aren’t bad. The lowest is 0.5x and the maximum is 25x, and that increases to 50x in Free Smash.
Speaking of the Free Smash, it didn’t seem particularly hard to trigger, and there’s plenty of scope for big wins, what with the possibility of also triggering the Buffalo Run and the Multiplier functions simultaneously. The max win is 500x.
The setting is a vast sandy plane interspersed with rocks and little shrubs of grass. It’s a hot day and in the background you can see Wild-West rock formations.
The game’s premise is very simple, so everything is easy to follow. There’s not much movement in the background but the detail and the smoothness of the animations of the buffalo are fantastic.
The old West music is nice and relaxing; however, in Free Smash, it becomes much grander and operatic – think Spaghetti Westerns. The game sounds just as good on mobile, though I have to say some of the animations were a little jerky.
There’s something really satisfying about throwing lassos over instant cash symbols! The game looks and sounds great, and even though the max win isn’t very high, players should get plenty of chances to hit big returns.
