March 2020 was a hard time for many with the pandemic and the world yearned for a distraction. This came in the form of Netflix's Tiger King which followed Joe Exotic and explored the shady world of big cat breeding and its underworld.
Tiger King was absolute TV Gold and kept so many people sane through the bizarre acts. Ultimately, this led to Red Tiger Gaming creating an online slot all about Joe Exotic, leading to modest success.
Carole Baskin was one of the stand-out figures in the show because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding her former husband and because of the rivalry with Joe Exotic.
Evidently, this made her the perfect subject for a new online slot with a focus on her story rather than Joe Exotic. This is where Big Cat Rescue Megaways comes in and even shares a portion of the profits with the actual animal sanctuary.
Design
The slot is set at the Big Cat Rescue animal sanctuary in Florida and features the famous building in the background. Whilst the background may be static, there are animations of flowers and leafs surrounding the reels.
All the symbols on the reels relate to Carole Baskin's sanctuary with loads of adorable big cats. Ms Baskin is featured on the reels as the scatter with her trademark flower crown on.
We're happy to say that the music in this slot is absolutely perfect for the tone and is quite catchy. There's a funky bass paired with other instruments to create something exciting. Our only complaint was that we wish Ms Baskin spoke more in the slot but that's about it.
Gameplay
In the base game, there isn't anything overly thrilling going on as the game keeps it simple. The only real feature is the free spins round with multipliers but that's about it.
As for the menu buttons, the spin button and bet level can be found at the bottom of the screen. When the screen loads up, there is a pop-up screen with all the instructions for the game but these can manually be found at the bottom of the screen as well.
Win Potential
This slot could've almost been a classical slot in terms of win potential as there's a high volatility level that blends in well with the maximum win of 10,481x the stake which is decent.
However, the slot is decreased in score due to the low RTP of 95.75% which is under the average standard. If it wasn't for this, then Big Cat Rescue Megaways could've had one of the best win potentials for a branded slot.
Our Verdict
Big Cat Rescue Megaways is a simple but entertaining slot from Red Tiger Gaming. It perfectly captures Carole Baskin but keeps it tasteful with the focus on her animal sanctuary.
This is clearly a superior slot to Joe Exotic in terms of the win potential but does lack in terms of features. Despite all of this, Big Cat Rescue Megaways is a must-play slot for fans of Carole Baskin. Plus it helps that a portion of the profits are donated to the non-profit organisation as well.
