9 Blazing Diamonds Review
If you’ve already played the original version of the game, you won’t need any introduction to this new and improved version.
Everything is much the same as it was before, apart from the addition of four progressive jackpots, including that unbelievable WowPot!
It’s not easy to introduce something new to a retro-themed slot game, which is kind of the point. But SpinPlay Games have managed to elegantly update the classic fruit-machine game and give it a more modern feel with a slowly revolving wheel set off to the side.
Big cash prizes are prominently displayed where they’ll gain maximum attention, and there’s a breezy jazz-funk soundtrack to keep things moving along.
There are 25 fixed paylines, and your aim is to match symbols across one or more of them to win cash prizes. Cherries, Bars, and red 7s are joined by dollar signs and bells, with a Wild substitute symbol to plug any gaps in winning combinations.
The Blazing Diamonds of the title are Scatter symbols. They don’t trigger any bonus features, but they pay out for landing three or more anywhere on the reels. There’s also a bonus symbol which only appears on reels 1 and 3, although it can be added to any other icon on reel 5. Three bonus symbols activate a spin of the Blazing Wheel.
Your Blazing Wheel spin awards up to 30 free spins, together with a multiplier worth up to 4x, which is applied to every win during the bonus round. Alternatively, the Blazing Wheel could spin up one of the four progressive prizes, including the possibility of the WowPot itself!
The win potential is where the WowPot version of 9 Blazing Diamonds really differs from the original. Both versions have a maximum instant prize payout worth 10,000x the bet for landing 9 Blazing Diamonds with a 4x multiplier during the free spins bonus round. But this incarnation of the game comes with four progressive jackpot prizes, which seed at the following levels and keep increasing until they’re won:
- Mini: 10.00
- Minor: 100.00
- Major: 50,000.00
- WowPot: 2,000,000.00
The original game came with medium volatility and a respectable RTP of 96.33%. That was to accommodate a top payout worth 10,000x the bet, but it’s a different story once those big jackpot prizes are factored in. The RTP drops to a low 93.3%, while the volatility goes up a notch to medium-high. That’s the price to be paid when every wager contributes to the jackpot prizes, and especially when they grow to the levels of the WowPot!
It’s no secret that we’re not the biggest fans of fruit-machine games, but who isn’t a fan of big jackpot prizes? The WowPot element made us look at 9 Blazing Diamonds in a whole new – and more favourable – light.
Be aware that this isn’t a game for the faint-hearted, for the risk-averse or for any player with modest gaming funds. Expect long, lean periods with no wins, while hoping to trigger that elusive WowPot.
