Money Train 3: A behind the scenes look at the masterpiece
A look behind the curtain at one of the biggest games of the year
In preparation for the release of the highly anticipated Money Train 3 in September, Relax Gaming invited experts within the iGaming industry to get an exclusive look at the game and how it came to be.
It’s clear that Money Train 3 will be one of the biggest games of the year as it currently has the highest score ever on Slot Gods, which is exactly why Relax Gaming hosted this event to give an insight into the development process.
During the session, we heard from four of the key people behind Money Train 3: Callum Sultana, the Game Product Owner, Ola Öinert, the Lead Game Mathematician, Srdjan Zdravkovic, the Head of the Studio, and Simon Hammon, the CEO of Relax Gaming. Each of these individuals gave us exclusive insights into the game and exactly how the team created the masterpiece that is Money Train 3.
Upping the maximum win
The behind-the-scenes look started with the Hammon asking Sultana about the team’s main consideration before starting Money Train 3. Sultana responded: “With Money Train, everyone wants to see the big wins which are what make the games famous.”
He spoke on how the team sat down to discuss two key things with the first being able to create a new bunch of ways to hit the maximum win. The second factor was upping the maximum win from 50,000x to 100,0000x the stake. He added: “we love seeing big win videos as much as the next guy - so we wanted some more of them.”

Sultana went on further to explain the lessons learnt from Money Train 2 with the blunt statement: “Bigger wins are better.” On a more serious note, he spoke on how the team learned something new from each instalment in the series and how Relax Gaming wanted to clarify confusing moments from the previous games.
Staying true to the series
Each Money Train game features vast improvements with usability being one of the key areas that the team examined. Sultana said: “Usability there is a big learning experience and something we wanted to do in Money Train 3.”
“Ultimately, it was a very fun production to work on. Obviously, there were a lot of expectations going from Money Train 2 to 3. It (Money Train 2) won game of the year for us,” commented Sultana.
“The biggest challenge is to stay true to the game.” According to Sultana, the team had loads of ideas and could’ve gone miles away from the series, but they had to reign it in and stay true to the series. However, they wanted to offer players something different so that they would play Money Train 3 and not just stick to the sequel.
Sultana further explains that each Money Train slot is essentially set in a different reality with the first one being in the Wild West and the second game going down the Steampunk route. Ultimately, this makes the third game another alternative reality which opens up endless possibilities for the fourth game.
Finding the right look
Zdravkovic then took the audience through the process of production and how Relax Gaming nailed the Money Train 3 visuals. During the production, there were three different ideas that were floated for Money Train 3.
The first was Diesel Punk which features a retro-futuristic war zone and the second idea was Space Opera which showcases distant planets and new civilisations. Evidently, the series mainly led to Bio Punk world which was a mix between classical sci-fi and Money Train 2.
Zdravkovic added: “Money Train 3 is one of the most complex games in the market ever. It was very hard to keep the game falling in line with the first and second part… Very challenging but very interesting to work on.”
The team had an innovative approach to sound delivery as they focused on timing and the motion scene itself in order to create the mood and atmosphere imperative to the Money Train experience. This helps to follow the narrative driving the slot.
Why the 100,000x cap?
Öinert took the reigns on this question and said: “From 20,000 to 50,000x in previous games. The natural step was 100,000k and the question was if they could do it. So, the question was can we do it?”
Öinert went on to discuss the cap of 100,000x the stake and why it was needed. Interesting, he provided statistics on the first three games and what the maximum win could be without this. Money Train would have a maximum win of 1 billion, whilst Money Train 2 could’ve had a maximum win of 1,500 trillion.
There are 66 ways to combine the 12 different feature scatters during the bonus game showing a lot of versatility in the rounds. Öinert mentioned how there are many ways to achieve the maximum win giving the players even more ways to win.
The discussion also mentioned the bonus buy feature and how the series arguably popularised the mechanic. Relax Gaming also confirmed that Money Cart and Money Cart 2 were just created for the UK and that there will be a Money Cart 3 coming sometime in the future - which is certainly an exciting announcement.
