Wild Outlaws Review
The Wild West era is remembered as a time when everyone was hoping to make their fortune. That makes it the perfect theme for an online slot, so most developers make sure to include at least one in their catalogue.
Get it right, and slot developers can expect to attract a huge fanbase – just think of the popularity of the Money Train series, or Tombstone RIP, for example. So how does Wild Outlaws compare?
Design
A deserted street with a hotel on one side, and a bank on the other. A guitar playing out melancholy chords as a wolf howls in the distance. There’s the sound of gunshots and galloping hooves.
Everything is exactly as you’d expect from a Wild West-themed slot, even down to the metal playing card symbols nailed to the reels. It’s all very atmospheric, but we wouldn’t expect anything less from Light & Wonder.
Gameplay
Wild symbols are restricted to the four central reels, except during the Revolver Bonus, when they can also land on reels 1 and 6. The Revolver Bonus could be activated whenever two Bonus symbols land on the reels. If it’s triggered, the Bonus symbols turn Wild, with between 3 – 5 random symbols on the reels also turning Wild.
Spin up three Bonus Scatters to enter into the free spins bonus round. The bullet chambers spin to reveal numbers, which are added together to form your free spins award. Now a row of jail bars is added above reels 2 – 5, ready to collect any Wild outlaws that land. Every Wild is collected above the reel, with each new Wild collected on a reel adding +1 to its multiplier value.
Free spins can be retriggered by landing three more Bonus Scatters during the feature. And it’s possible to land the Revolver Bonus during the feature round too.
Win potential
The Premium Play option increases the stake by 1.5x, which activates a Sheriff Bonus for wins over 1.6x the stake. You’ll be invited to pick from 12 Sheriff’s badges to reveal a multiplier worth between 1x – 5x, or instant access to the free spins bonus round.
For players who thrive on risk there’s a Gamble button, which can also be activated during the Sheriff’s Bonus in Premium Play. Collect your win, or take a spin on one of two wheels in an attempt to increase the value of the prize or claim the free spins bonus – or lose that win altogether.
Our Verdict
Wild Outlaws might not be in quite the same league as some of the better-known Wild West-themed slots, but it’s definitely got a lot going for it. The Revolver Bonus is highly unpredictable but can generate some decent wins, reminding us of the Gun Chamber feature in Wild Showdown, also from Light & Wonder.
The Wild collection feature during the free spins bonus is highly innovative, and we particularly like the impressive max win potential that comes in at over 16,000x the bet. If this is a genre of online slot that you enjoy, then we can highly recommend you take a closer look at Wild Outlaws.
