The Knight King Review
We saddled up our faithful steed and were ready to gallop off into battle when we realised that our horse had a bum leg and the best we were going to get was a slightly awkward trot.
Unfortunately, our excitement limped to an untimely demise shortly after beginning our adventure. It sounds harsh but you get the feeling that Pragmatic Play was definitely on autopilot when they churned this one out.
It’s not that this is a bad game per se, and had this arrived on our desk 10 years ago, we could have been a bit more upbeat. The problem is that there are so many incredible titles out there now that slots like The Knight King will naturally feel a little lacklustre.
Design
You can never fault Pragmatic Play for their high-quality design elements and when they put their backs to it, they produce some of the most eye-catching slots in the industry. The Knight King is pleasant enough to look at with a fairytale castle in the background and a slick, hi-shine border. Unfortunately, the occasional animation feels like an afterthought that was added to appease the QA team.
The soundtrack probably won't set your pulse racing either and it feels a little looped and overly repetitive. On a positive note, you will be able to play the game on all kinds of devices, so if this production does somehow get your horse chomping at the bit, then at least you can play it wherever you like.
Gameplay
The Knight King does require a lot of patience. It's a high-volatility production, so the features aren't going to trigger very often. This means that you need to get acquainted with the base game and get yourself comfortable. This slot just needed a little extra something to break up the journey and give it the bit of oomph that we were hoping for.
Win Potential
You can't argue with the RTP as it is a little over 96% giving players a fair crack of the whip. The maximum payout is 5,000x, which isn't huge for such a highly volatile production—this may prove to be a bitter pill to swallow for fans looking for huge payouts.
It is perfectly possible that the special money symbols will produce a fabulous payout during the adventure and somebody has to win it, right?
Our Verdict
You probably shouldn’t head straight for The Knight King based on the theme alone. You will need to have a vested interest in the potential winnings and remain fairly blinkered when it comes to the rest of the game. It is worth a try, but there are much better titles out there in this genre.
Alyx has always loved slots and continuously follows their progress and development. She’s a big fan of gridded slots and music themes as well, so it makes sense that Def Leppard Hysteria is her absolute favourite. She can’t wait to see what’s next in the Play’n GO rock series.
