Sweet Alchemy 100 Review
There were some elements in the previous two games that we weren't quite sure about but we are happy to say that Play’n GO seems to have nailed it this time. The free games are back from the second Sweet Alchemy release and the chance to land Wild symbols via the modifier is something we enjoyed during the first Sweet Alchemy game.
Maybe it was just us, but we are glad to see that the expanding chocolate bar grid from the sequel has been removed. It was a nice idea but it made it extremely difficult to trigger the bonus game. No such problems with Sweet Alchemy 100, hopefully, as it should be simpler to build up enough Witch symbols from time to time to get this part of the game underway.
Design
The aforementioned expanding grid made the sequel feel somewhat clunky and it is nice to see the developer go back to the original idea with this version. It is a clean and simple layout with what is effectively five reels and five rows of Witches and Candy symbols being intermittently interrupted by Wild symbols.
The magic mirror is back on the wall to show you how your wins are coming along and you will also see the three sisters popping up when it is their turn to add some fun to the adventure.
The action takes place with a fairly unassuming classical soundtrack and the sound effects are suitably twinkly for a game of this ilk.
Game Play
It is all about the witches and without them, you'll only see bog-standard wins floating around. The three magical sisters have the ability to put a spring in your step and hopefully a little extra cash in your balance.
Their modifiers not only bring about additional wins but can also trigger the choice of bonus games. You will have to trust your instincts when it comes to these features as you never know which one will work out best for you. If you’re lucky, you might get to try all three.
Win Potential
We began this series with a 3,000x max win and moved on to a much improved 10,000x top payout in the sequel. These limits have now been shattered with 15,000x available. The RTP of 96.20% is in line with the average for video slots these days and you can also enjoy the opportunity of landing occasional big wins. This is thanks to the high volatility, but bear in mind that it may take its toll on your bankroll as you play.
Our Verdict
Is this the best in the Sweet Alchemy range? Some will definitely think so but others won't be 100% convinced. The one thing that everybody can agree on, we imagine, is that the original and this 100 version are slightly better than the second release. It's a top grid slot with a sugary sweet coating that might just produce the goods on a lucky day.
Paul spent plenty of time in arcades up and down the UK discovering all of the best fruit machines and watching them grow into the incredible online slots we see today. He still loves the basic format but also has a soft spot for games with big bonus rounds that progress as you play. Immortal Romance is one of his favourite slots of all time.
