Stakelogic has previously dabbled with some peculiar slot themes but I don't think I've ever seen them take on a gorilla wearing orange overalls, hanging from a crane before. There's a first time for everything and part of my brain is more than happy to entertain this madness! The symbol wins are quite small but multipliers will help the situation and large combos are also a possibility. I see that free spins are included and the global multiplier should make things even more attractive during the bonus round.
You won't recognise this set of reels as they feel completely different to most other slots. Essentially, there is a top row that adds extra symbols but it works slightly differently to standard horizontal rows with boosted prizes.
As you take a spin, a 4x4 set of reels appears and a horizontal row appears at the top. With this size grid, you can produce wins in over 1,000 ways and matching symbols must land on adjacent reels. The grid can begin to increase and give you over 30,000 ways to hit a prize. The smallest payouts come from a group of three rope symbols and the highest appear courtesy of the builder chap with a red hat. For a group of five of these, you get 2x.
Payout wins will struggle to return your bet but all is not lost as there are other ways to pick up a prize. Firstly, you have the multiplier feature and these can be attached to high-paying symbols. Multiplier values range between 2x and 100x. If a win includes one of these symbols, they get improved by the multiplier value. As a win takes place, the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop down and you could potentially pick up another win.
The crane will bring an extra set of symbols and if they land perfectly, you will have an additional row to work with. It might miss slightly but the monkey can jump down and throw them back into place.
Three, four or five bonus symbols will get you up to 20 free spins and the benefit here is twofold. As you play, you'll see the reels begin to expand as you did before but they won't reset between losing spins. In addition, the multipliers that land and are collected will add to a global multiplier figure and this improves any future wins.
Three more bonus symbols will grab you another three free spins, four will get you four free spins and five bonus symbols award an additional five free plays. You can turn on the Super Stake option to double the chances of triggering the free spins bonus at the cost of 0.50x your base bet. Outside the UK, there is a bonus buy option that costs 100x.
Winning combos force the winning symbols to disappear and new ones join the game. After the grid is replenished, a crane brings a new row of symbols to the game area. If it lands perfectly, the reels will expand and if it misses slightly, the monkey will throw them back to where they should be.
Three, four or five bonus symbols will get you between 12 and 20 spins. As you expand the reels, you can expect the row heights not to reset. The multipliers that you collect from winning combos are applied to a global multiplier and this boosts all subsequent wins. You can pick up extra spins as you play.
Without the additional row and multiplier figures, your balance isn't going to get very far in this game. Unfortunately, it does require the magic of a persistent and global figure to supply any noteworthy results. This makes the base game a little surplus but it is still fun watching the mechanic take place.
I was fortunate enough to see wins worth over 50x during the bonus game but I don't think I would use the direct buy in option. You're working with high volatility here and a 6,000x max prize.
Watching this creation come together is all part of the fun and it helps distract from the fact that the win potential perhaps isn't the best. Our block building gorilla hangs from the crane, waiting to shove extra rows on top and all around are various hints that we found ourselves on a New York City construction site.
