Thanks to the Megaways mechanic, you could get well over 100,000 paylines as you try to land winning combos. Royal symbols get up to 0.8x for a group of six and five picture symbols provide up to 7.5x for a six-of-a-kind win.

Watch out for wild symbols as these substitute for regular payers, but don't expect to see them on the first reel.
If you witness three or more wild symbols on the reels at any one time, you begin what is known as Respin Mode. All wild symbols will move around the reels and if another wild symbol lands, you get an extra spin. Once you run out of wild, you run out of spins.
There's also a mystery symbol that can appear during the base game and as is the tradition, these will reveal a group of matching symbols that might just bag you a payout.
Random wins might also land in your balance after a losing spin as the symbols change places to form a payout of up to 10x.
Playing for free requires between 3 and 6 bonus symbols and for this, you'll start with six free spins. Before those spins commence, you'll open a number of chests that equals the number of bonus symbols that triggered the game.
Chests will reveal upgrades that include up to four free spins, an extra roaming wild, up to 2x multipliers to apply to your wins and minimum guaranteed win ways.
Wild symbols transform into roaming wilds and these move around the reels between spins. They also increase the multiplier by 1x.

I went for the latter and waited to see how many spins would come my way. I hit four scatters and began to choose my chests. I grabbed an extra two spins, a 2x multiplier, 2,000 Megaways, and a 1x multiplier and then headed off to start my spins.
The wild symbol did its thing and moved around the reels but struggled to pick up any wins throughout my first four spins. Finally, I picked up at 2x win and moved into my final set of spins. An extra wild joined the party but it didn’t get things moving – by the end of the bonus game, I was very disappointed with my 2x win.
I couldn't leave it at that and decided to give it another go. This time, I had seven free spins to play with and the wins were better. But only slightly! My final payout was 24x. So, after two bonus buy-ins that cost 300x in total, I had just 26x in return.

If this slot has taught me anything, it's that bonus buys definitely aren't always worth it! I got better payouts from going in naturally rather than parting with 300x. None of my payouts were anywhere close to the 10,000x max win and I can't imagine how long it will take to see that figure fall – especially given that the volatility isn't that high and only has a 3.5 out of 5 rating. The RTP is 96.08%.
Release the Kraken Megaways has a very different look and feel to the previous two slots in this miniseries. It's far more artistic in its approach and we find ourselves on dry land hitting this spin button. It's a good-looking game and even on my smaller mobile screen, I was able to take full advantage of all these details. An epic adventure soundtrack keeps you motivated as you play.
In terms of stats, not much has improved in Release the Kraken Megaways compared to the last two games. From a gameplay perspective, you’ve still got free spins but you won't find any sunken treasure like you did in the original or the second instalment. I'll be heading back to play one of those two, personally.
In the interest of finishing on a high, the design is completely incomparable as it stands head and shoulders above its predecessors.
