Release the Kraken 2 Review
When the original Release the Kraken was released in 2020, no one knew what to expect. In a strange twist, the game actually became a fan-favourite amongst players leading to demand for a sequel.
Almost two years later, Pragmatic Play delivered with Released the Kraken 2. Just like the previous game, this one plays on 5-reels with 20 paylines and contains multiple wilds and bonus rounds leading to glorious gameplay.
Design
As the name suggests an underwater theme, the slot opens up at the bottom of the sea. There are different plant life creatures around as well as a sunken ship in the distance.
On the reels, there are a variety of animals from sharks to turtles. Each of these characters is animated in a cartoonish way which makes it a lot easier on the eyes.
In-between spins, you'll find ambient noises of the water with bubbles throughout. However, this changes during spins with a bow-led score leading to more suspense.
Gameplay
The base game keeps it light with modifiers and only 20 ways to win. Thankfully, this is enhanced during the bonus round with 40 ways to win and multipliers as well.
In true Pragmatic Play style, there is the spin button at the bottom of the screen with the bet level next to it. Non-UK players will find the bonus buy to the left of the reels.
Win Potential
Unfortunately, the win potential is where this slot slowly begins to slip. Both games contain a high volatility level and a decent RTP of 96.50% - but the maximum win is decreased dramatically.
In the original game, players can win up to 10,000x the stake, but this has been dropped to 5,000x the stake. It's frustrating that the maximum win has been literally cut in half.
Our Verdict
Release the Kraken 2 hits most of the right notes with this slot. The design is nothing special but still manages to be charming, whilst the gameplay is absolutely wonderful.
There is so much going on throughout the game, that we found ourselves triggering most of the features. Despite all of this, the maximum win is lower than the original and may put off some players.
If you haven't played the original, then this slot is a great place to start. However, we recommend trying the original if you are looking for a bigger payout.
