Rat King Review
We can't remember Push Gaming producing a scatter pays slot before so this is fairly uncharted territory for them. But they certainly are no strangers to the world of cascading win sequences so the addition of scatter-paying symbols shouldn't be too much of a step up for a developer of this quality.
As with many game producers, Push Gaming has gone for a retro feel that appeals to many of us these days and it adds a light-hearted edge to what could be some very serious slot-spinning action.
Design
This industrial-themed game is filled with machines spitting out different coloured gloop and conveyor belts that are ready to take your collection boxes off to the bank. The symbols are made up of sticky treats and we imagine that this is what has attracted the rats to the building!
The animations are deliberately low grade and the soundtrack wouldn't be out of place in an old Mega Drive production. Mobile gamers can also get in on the action on both Apple and Android products if this is how you like to access your iGaming entertainment.
Game Play
There are many elements to this slot that we simply loved; however, a slight downside for us was how the collection boxes restricted access to multipliers and scatter symbols.
In most games, you only need bonus scatter symbols to land on the screen to trigger the main feature, but here it isn't quite so easy. All of these symbols need to make the arduous journey to the bottom of the reels and drop into a collection box to bring about a bonus game trigger. It's an extra step that might get in the way of your enjoyment and certainly your ability to back the bigger wins.
Once you get to the bonus game, it's clear that very decent wins could appear at this point thanks to the progressive multiplier that doesn't reset between winning spins.
Win Potential
As we have seen, the bonus buy option could produce an RTP level that sits just under 97% but for the most part, we will have to be satisfied with 96.30% as a general marker. The maximum payout here is 10,000x and the medium volatility isn't unreasonable.
Our Verdict
Despite our little moan about the additional step to collect Scatter symbols, we found a lot of enjoyment during our time with Rat King. Push Gaming very rarely misses the mark and they have succeeded once again in producing an engaging and fun setup. Retro fans should consider this title, big win fans should consider this title and anyone that likes coloured gloop and rats should definitely consider this title.
