The Nitropolis series produced some fantastic highlights with incredible slot mechanics that were a welcome breath of fresh air in the industry. Rogue Rats of Nitropolis springs to mind and I'm hoping that Wally and his dream to become a news anchor keeps the innovation coming.
The 6x4 game area is not alone as it features a special reel on top. This reel is for adding extra Nitro Reels that will add additional symbols to any combo wins. You could have up to 12 extra symbols taking part in a payout.
Ordinarily, wins begin from the left-hand side with low-paying royals producing up to 0.25x and the picture symbols can pay up to 2x. Symbols must land on adjacent reels to keep the string of matching symbols going and every so often, you might see the Both Ways feature suddenly allow wins to be evaluated from the right-hand reel as well.
The Match Up feature will take a number of low-value symbols and replace them with high-value ones or perhaps a wild symbol to attempt to grab you a win.
The Nitro symbols might receive an upgrade and they'll have the number of symbols increased and even some of the inactive ones might suddenly come to life. Upgrading stars appear on the payout symbols and these will activate or increase the Nitro Reels.
The vulture symbol will turn into a wild after it has triggered the above modifiers and these will substitute for other regular payers if they're in the right place.
Big symbols can also land with either a 2x2 or 3x3 surface area.
The two bonus games are essentially the same thing but one happens to be regular and the other is ‘super’. Three or more bonus symbols trigger the round with Nitro Reels remaining persistent and additional bonus symbols awarding extra spins.
A combo of regular bonus and super bonus symbols activate the main event where Both Ways is now continuously an option and every free spin will begin with the Nitro Reel filled with wild symbols.
X-iter is on offer once again and these special options come with a price.
To make each spin four times more likely to trigger the bonus game, you'll need to cough up three times your regular bet and to witness a spin with a guaranteed vulture symbol, it'll cost you 10x.
Guaranteed spins with an activated Nitro Reel full of wild symbols will cost 25x and the standard bonus game costs 100x. Those feeling extremely lucky may want to pay 500x and head straight to the super bonus feature.
Bear in mind that the direct bonus buy-ins won't be available in the UK.
Nitro Reels show a random number of symbols that are included in any combo wins. You could have up to 12 extra symbols landing on the special row above the regular reels. Reels may also shift to help line up a win.
When active, the Both Ways feature allows wins to collect from right to left and left to right. Match Up will grab a number of low-paying symbols and replace them with high-value ones.
Bonus and super bonus symbols trigger the feature game with all active Nitro Reels remaining in play. The super bonus version shows a Nitro Reel with wild symbols and Both Ways feature activated.
It's possible to grab wins worth up to 25,000x according to some sources but when you look at the games blub, you'll see that only 10,000x is available. I haven't received confirmation as to which figure is correct yet. Either way, the base game can dish out some fantastic wins as those Nitro Reels begin to pick up huge combos and Wally works his magic and shifts things around a little.
It gets even better in the bonus game but it is by no means an essential part of the equation if you're just looking to enjoy all the main parts of this creation. The X-iter options aren't the cheapest but some players may be tempted if they feel the returns could exceed the investment. It's a highly volatile slot and this should be taken into consideration before you decide how much you're prepared to risk.
Can you ever fault the design of an ELK Studios game? In the beginning perhaps, but the last couple of years have seen this developer push the boundaries and lead the way in not only mechanics but graphics and animations too.
The main premise is that Wally has set up a TV studio on the roof of his apartment block without the foggiest idea of how to transmit a picture. It's purposely ramshackled an intentionally amateur but that doesn't mean that the creators have done a bad job. What it tells us is they're able to take any idea and add their unmistakable ELK twist to pretty much anything.
This developer has offered me some of my favourite slots soundtracks in recent months and while this game doesn't quite have the audio genius that Shadow Shifter managed to deliver, it's still pretty catchy and streets ahead of much of the competition.
Elk Studios slots should be on your to-do list and I doubt you'll find a single one that you don't like. Nitropolis TV might not make my top 5 ELK games but some players are going to hold this slot in high regard for a long time to come.
