It’s a glamorous life being a spy – at least according to Microgaming. And you get to choose whether to play as Mr Spy or Mrs Spy in this five-reel slot. It’s a theme that’s been done before, but this game includes the Link & Win game mechanic, which means it’s going to have a ready-made audience. The question is, will it live up to expectations?
Design
Cartoon-style imagery meets James Bond in this fun outing from Microgaming. Mr Spy is tall, dark and handsome, while Mrs Spy is dressed for a big night out, with bouffant waves and a red dress that’s slashed to the thigh.
The background is all skyscrapers, big wheels and suspension bridges, giving a general flavour of New York. There’s a real 70’s retro feel to the game, especially when you factor in the smooth jazz-style soundtrack.
Gameplay
With wagering options to suit every type of gaming budget, getting started at the reels of Mr & Mrs Spy is easy. Simply decide how much to wager per spin, activate Autoplay if you’re settling in for a longer session, then set the reels spinning.
The game comes with 10 fixed paylines, and you’ll need to match paytable symbols from left to right across one or more of them to win the associated prize. All wins are paid as a multiplier of your stake, and the slot features a dynamic paytable, so you can see at a glance what you might win.
Land 5 or more bonus chips to trigger the Link & Win feature round. Three respins are awarded, rising to 5 if you activate the relevant Boost. Only chips are held on the reels, with every spin that lands a chip resetting the respin counter. The bonus ends when all spaces are filled, or when respins fail to result in any more chips landing.
Win Potential
Matching just three low-value poker card symbols returns your stake, so this is a game with some good winning potential. Premium symbols take the form of revolvers, cocktails, supercars, gold watches and diamond necklaces. Both Mr and Mrs Spy award up to 10x your stake for five of a kind, but it’s the Wild shooting range target that tops the paytable, paying out up to 20x your bet.
The Link & Win bonus feature holds the key to the biggest prize payouts. There are 6 jackpot prizes, awarding the following prizes, shown as multiples of your stake.

Our Verdict
Crime may not pay, but some crime-themed slots most certainly do! This isn’t to say that wins are guaranteed when you spin the reels of Mr & Mrs Spy, but the top payout of 5,000x means that plenty of slots fans will want to give it a try.
It would have been nice to see some reel modifiers during base gameplay. Aside from the Link & Win bonus there are no other features to look forward to. But having said that, those Boosts have the potential to raise the returns all the way up to 5,000x your stake – and who wouldn’t want the chance to land a prize like that?
