Having been a fan of the original Bison Moon, I was excited to see what Northern Lights Gaming have added to the fray with this new, supposedly, improved Megaways version.
Of course, the paylines have increased from the original 25 to a whopping 117,649, but has the game studio added any more features to make this slot game stand out on its own merit? The short answer is yes. There's plenty more going on in Bison Moon Megaways than in the original, so let's dive into this review and see what exactly is going on with this new release.
This new title from Northern Lights Gaming is the exciting remake of the popular original Bison Moon game but with some cool added extras. You have 6 reels and up to 7 rows at any given time, with an extra row sitting across the top of reels 2 to 5 where special symbols can land during the Link & Win feature.
You have 6 low-paying letter symbols and 5 high-paying animal symbols in the base game, along with a wild and Free Spins scatter that triggers the bonus game.
Landing 4 or more scatters in the base game will take you to the free spins round, while 6 or more Link & Win symbols will take you into the aptly-named Link & Win feature.
The bonus rounds aside, in this new release Northern Lights Gaming has added a further special feature with the Bison Stampede Bonus Wheel. Triggered randomly in the base game, the wheel awards 1 of 4 modifiers, including ‘Max Ways’ where the total number of 117,649 paylines are in play.
Of the two bonus features, I’m more a fan of the Link & Win, as special symbols can appear in the ‘extra reel’ that runs along the top of the game board.

The RTP tops out at 96.10% which is very average, and the high volatility means that you will be waiting around for some time for this game to pay out any decent wins. But the fun base game and interesting bonus rounds will make the time fly by!
In terms of design, Northern Lights Gaming hasn't done all that much to change the look and feel of Bison Moon Megaways. That said, the graphics and animations are a lot slicker, and things like the extra reel and the Bison Moon Bonus Wheel give this game a slightly fresher image.
The soundtrack is a very epic ‘Legends of the Fall’ affair, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of this game with its desolate American mountain vibe.
Overall, I really enjoyed playing Bison Moon Megaways. I might be biased as I really liked the original, but the team at Northern Lights Gaming has definitely gone above and beyond to add some extra features that make Bison Moon Megaways, in my opinion, superior to the original.
I really loved the Link & Win feature, as well as the Bison Moon Bonus Wheel and Dynamite symbols that all give you plenty of chances to cash in on this game.
