There are 2 game areas - the main grid and the feature shelf. The main grid is effectively 6x6 in size, but that’s dependent on the amount of Blockers that fall - symbols which serve no purpose other than to occupy positions on the grid. The feature shelf above is 6x2, but can also fall victim to Blockers. Frog symbols from the main grid will spit and slurp in an effort to activate symbols from the feature shelf.
Wins consist of landing matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel. A 6-of-a-kind consisting of the Jack to Ace symbols can be worth up to 0.4x the stake. The more valuable artefact symbols, however, can be worth up to 5x. Remember that the avalanche mechanic is in play, so if you hit a winning combination, symbols disappear so more can drop down and hopefully yield more wins.
Landing frog symbols allows you to take advantage of the symbols directly above them on the the feature shelf. Symbols include the following:
There’s also the Frog to Wild feature: if a frog from the main grid pulls down another frog, it can trigger all the features on the shelf! The frog on the main grid may then explode and create Wilds.
If you land a frog but the symbol vertically above it on the shelf is a Blocker, the frog will simply remove the Blocker, thereby allowing for another symbol to drop down. These frogs might also jump off onto a Lily Pad, which will allow for its previously held position to be turned into another random symbol.
To trigger Free Spins, all players have to do is remove all the Blockers from the main grid. Players start off with 6 free drops, and the global multiplier is carried over from the base game. If you land the Both Ways symbol, its function remains active throughout Free Spins. Clear all the Blockers and you’ll trigger another 6 free spins!

What if the Mayans and the Aztecs were in fact frog people? Well, ELK Studios has brought this weird thought to life. Frogblox takes place in temples located so deep in the jungle that only an amphibian Indian Jones or Lara Croft would dare to explore them.
The setting is a ruin of an ancient frog civilisation, which I found as amusing as I’m sure the developers intended. The stone pillars flanking the grid are covered in vines. In the background, there are a couple of waterfalls, plus wild, green vegetation interspersed with different coloured jewels. Although this background is well-designed, it is quite static. The design of the symbols, also colourful, is a little basic and lacks depth. This simplicity might be a conscious decision, mind. There are, after all, 2 different game areas. ELK Studios might have just wanted to avoid confusing players.
On mobile, the game looks better than a lot of other slots I’ve played. The only issue I noticed was the occasional jerky animation with respect to the reels.
The audio is typical of adventure films, such as those of the Indian Jones series, and it all sounds great, regardless of the device you choose to use.
The base game is great as there are so many different features you can trigger. I’m always partial to the avalanche mechanic, but on top of that, you can also trigger both-ways pays, multipliers and big symbols, and those are just my favourites. There are quite a few others.
Free spins is basically just more of the same but with an ever-increasing multiplier and sticky both-ways pays! I liked how you could retrigger the round by removing all the Blockers, and as the avalanche mechanic is still active, this never felt like mission impossible.
Overall, this game is really fun to play. Even if you don’t trigger Free Spins, you won’t be left feeling unsatisfied.
At 94%, the RTP is pretty low. On top of that, you’ve got a highly volatile math model. Having said that, my experience was that wins hit failry regularly, and they weren’t paltry wins either. The max win of 25,000x is hardly a reward to be sniffed at. And then there’s the number of win ways - 46,656! You’ve also effectively got 2 game areas, one that’s 6x6 and the other that’s 2x6. Needless to say, this is a game with plenty of win potential.
In my experience, ELK Studios seldom disappoints, and Frogblox is no exception. If pushed to find a shortcoming, I’d say the visuals are a little static, but I’m clutching at straws here. All in all, the game is an absolute triumph. It’s got a really fun and engaging base game, and you should find plenty of opportunities to hit big wins.
