We’ve battled with pirate treasure many times in the past, with pretty much every slot developer under the sun having a crack at this niche. Play’n GO will need to work hard to make their adventure stand out from the crowd but with a little help from some barrels of rum and various wild powers, it might just stand a chance.
This adventure takes place on a 6x4 set of reels with a fairly flexible payline structure that doesn't require any fixed patterns. As long as your wins create groups of three, four, five or six matching symbols along adjacent reels and starting from the leftmost reel, you pick up a win.
The lowest payers are the royal symbols with a max of 1x and the picture symbols can grow to 5x. Wilds make a bit of a song and dance and they can get bigger and better as you progress thanks to the bottles of rum. The rum symbols are added to the barrel at the bottom of the game area and every six bottles that you collect will unlock a new stage.
The first stage is a regular wild and the second stage is a wild symbol with a multiplier worth up to 5x. Reach stage 3, and you can see an expanding wild multiplier that grows to cover the reel and also brings up to 5x. Stage 4 is your expanding sticky wild multiplier – similar to the one before but it sticks around for three respins.
The Stage 5 wild is walking! It moves left with respins until it falls off the side of the reels. You could see a maximum of 10 respins. The multiplier available with this one is up to x5. Stage 6, and the final stage in this wild journey, is the mega 2x2 wild. This is simply a large wild symbol that can create some big wins! Remember that if you change your bet, the number of rum bottles that you've collected so far will reset.
Beyond the wilds, there are coin pouches and gold coins. If you land a pouch and a coin at the same time, you pick up the coin’s value. Coins can produce up to 25x and if they aren't collected by a pouch, they might trigger the Hold’n Spin game.
You begin the bonus game with three respins and each time a coin scatter lands, it sticks to the grid and resets your number of spins. If you see a run of three spins without landing a gold coin, it'll be time to finish up and head back to the base game. But not before you see what you've won, and this happens by revealing all of the coin values to produce one final payout.
You can double your winnings up to four times if you are prepared to take the gamble but if you get it wrong, all of your bonus payouts will disappear.
Coins can land with values worth up to 25x and if they land at the same time as a pouch, you'll pick up that prize. If you don't collect the coin’s value, you might just trigger the bonus game.
If this feature busts into life, you'll play three respins with gold coins resetting your three spins. After three unsuccessful spins, your coins reveal their values and you can either take a gamble to double their value or walk away with your winnings.
The 70,000x max win would probably require a few things that this game doesn't offer. Firstly, some huge progressive multipliers would need to be applied during the bonus game and some extremely high volatility would need to lend a hand. Unfortunately, the game has medium volatility and the multipliers don't reach that high!
You might be able to pick up the max win but you'd probably be playing the game for years without stopping. I grabbed some innocent-looking payouts during the first part and the bonus helped out a little with a 55x reward.
The most striking part of this creation is the set of colours that really help make the scenery stand out. You get a beautiful blue sea and green palm trees with some larger-than-life characters spinning around the reels. A little animation is added here and there and if you wait long enough, you might see some coconuts falling into the water. It's a pretty eye-catching production and mobile devices are just as capable as desktops of setting the scene.
It's another ridiculously large max win from Play’n GO that feels more than just a little out of reach. The stats aren't really in this game's favour but the features are worth checking out. If you can get those rum bottles to land quickly, then you've got a chance of smashing some decent prizes but if it's not playing ball, then I wouldn't stick around for too long.
