Unlike a lot of other Big Time Gaming slots, this one isn’t a Megaways-powered one—but still looks strangely like it should be! Players can bet between 20p and £20, and the action takes place on a 6x4 grid. The object of the game is to land matching symbols on consecutive reels, starting from the leftmost reel. 9 to Ace are the usual lower-paying symbols. 6-of-a-kinds are worth from 0.2x to 0.25x the bet. The high-pay symbols, in ascending order of value, are 4-leaf clover, a horseshoe, a mushroom and a diamond. 6 of these matching symbols can be worth between 0.3x and 5x the bet.
You might consider the ‘Wild’ redundant, given that, at least as far as I know, no-one has ever succeeded in taming a unicorn! Fittingly, though, the Unicorn symbols do serve as Wild symbols. Equally fittingly, they aren’t normal Wilds.
When one of these mythical, majestic creatures lands, it will move up, down, left or right, filling all the squares it gallops over with more Wilds! These unicorns are averse to reels 1 and 6, however, as in, you won’t see them trotting to the game area’s extremities.
On top of that, when players do hit a winning combo, the winning symbols disappear and are replaced by an avalanche of symbols—a ‘Reaction’ is the term Big Time Gaming likes to use.
Keep an eye on reels 1 and 6, as these are where Fireworks Castle Scatter symbols land. You only need 2 Scatter symbols to win 8 free spins and a Unicorn Wild. Plus, you get an extra 4 free spins if you land another 2 Scatters, and another 2 free spins for every subsequent Scatter after that. During the round, there’s always an unlimited-win multiplier active. It starts off at 1x but increases by +1 with each Reaction.

The visuals are quite basic, although they are as good as Big Time Gaming’s other slots. Also, the simple presentation makes things very easy to follow. The ambient Tubular-Bells music is nice and relaxing, as is the constant sound of birds chirping.
The game’s Reactions are a nice feature, in that they give you further chances to win after landing a winning combination. The fact that the Unicorn Wilds can spread across entire rows or reels is also a welcome addition, but I’m not sure if Megaways fans will consider it an adequate substitute.
Although there aren’t hundreds of thousands of paylines in play, 4,096 win ways is still super generous. The max win of 56,800x isn’t bad, either! The Unicorn Wilds seem to fall quite regularly, in my experience, and watch out for high volatility.
Although the aesthetic probably isn’t going to appeal to massive, manly men, there isn’t all that much to criticise. Wild Unicorns has decent features and big win potential, so whether you’re into the presentation or not, after a few spins, you'll soon get in the spirit of things!
