The Tumbles is a cute, Disney-like slot seemingly inspired by films like Ice Age and The Flintstones. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I heard the name of the game, and the ice/snow theme is always a bit hit and miss, in my opinion. So is it just a Disney rip-off, or a frosty adventure waiting to pay out for my next set of skis? Let’s find out.
The Tumbles uses a 6x6 game grid that offers 46,656 ways to win. Match 3 or more symbols from left to right to form a winning combo.
You have some low-paying symbols in the form of card suits, and the 5 family members of the Tumbles themselves make up the higher-paying symbols. You’ll also find wilds, multipliers and some quirky ice and stone blocks.
Landing a win next to an ice or stone block destroys it and activates the cascading feature where a new symbol will fall in the place of the smashed block.
You’ll also notice that the multipliers land in either an ‘active’ or ‘inactive’ state. When active, they are collected and awarded as part of a winning payline, but when inactive they are contained within ice or stone, making them a block that you must destroy. It sounds complicated, but it isn’t! You’ll get the hang of it in no time.
Landing 3 or more scatters will send you to the free spins round where you get 8 bonus spins to use. If you were lucky enough to find more than 3 scatters in the base game, you’ll receive an additional free spin for every extra scatter you found.
During the free spins round, the pace of gameplay ramps up a notch. It’s not entirely different from the base game, as there are no additional symbols added. That said, you’ll find fewer ice and stone blocks in the bonus game and an increased likelihood of active multipliers to snap up. A nice touch in this round is that all the multipliers are collected and added together at the end of each spin.
Active symbols award multipliers, while inactive ice and stone blocks can be destroyed and made active. Smashed blocks are replaced with more symbols that cascade down the reels.

With a top prize of 5,000x your stake, The Tumbles certainly isn't competing for the highest payout of a slot game. That said, with medium volatility on its side and lots of multipliers up for grabs, there's certainly a decent amount of win potential in this game.
I'd like to have seen a slightly higher RTP than 96.10%, but that is pretty average for a slot title, so I can’t complain too much.
Other things that go in this game’s favour include 46,656 ways to win and the cascading symbols that fall into place when you destroy an ice or stone block, which can increase your chances of creating a winning combo.
In terms of look and feel, this slot won't appeal to everyone. It is very much on the ‘cutesy’ side of things, with the family members of the Tumbles looking very much like Pixar's version of a tribal clan.
The background is a largely forgettable snowy mountain range with a wooden elephant to one side and a rather dead-eyed snowman to the other. The symbols are quite nicely done, but I don't imagine the visuals of this game will stay with you for much longer after you’ve finished playing.
The soundtrack is equally non-descript and could have come out of any Disney movie in the last 30 years. I quite liked playing this game, but in terms of design, it's not going to have me running back anytime soon.
Overall, I enjoyed playing The Tumbles. It’s a nice change from the norm, but it does run the risk of having too much going on across too many reels. The features are pretty basic in principle, and the addition of the ice and stone blocks that you must destroy is a nice touch that makes this game stand out a little.
I'm not a huge fan of the theme or the design of the game, but there are certainly some chances to pocket a decent win with this happy little clan of a family.
